Problems with hew install:

I installed WCG a few days ago, and it seems to work fine from my end; 2248 points so far.

However, when I look online at my stats page or devices, I'm not showing anything. I waited until the end of a WU, and it looked from my end like everything xmitted OK.

I did find one reference in the help section saying to look for legacy files of the "UD_#" format. I do have them, but the help note did not specify as to whether or not I should do a full delete and re-install if they were there or if they were not.

Whatever I do, I would like to make sure that the work that my computer has done so far gets to the people who need it.

Please assist.

Thank You,
Jeff Cobb
Asheville, NC

Re: Problems with hew install:

Greetings,

When you open up the agent, please check that the member name matches "jeffrey_b_cobb" it may be that your agent is registered to another member name. Also, Can you please post your device ID so that I can look it up to make sure that everything is running properly.

Re: Problems with hew install:

Thanks for the speedy reply.

In the upper right corner of the agent it lists my name as "Jeff Cobb."

When I check the device manager, none is listed.

When I check the stats page, it shows nothing.

Your member name that your agent is registered to is "Jeff Cobb". Please try to log into the website with that user name. If you do not know the password for that member name then you can request it from the website. Here are your stats for that member name.

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewCo...p;userNames%5B7%5D.value=

Also, your device ID is located in the preferences on the agent. That is the check box in the bottom right when the agent is open.

Hope this helps,

Re: Problems with hew install:

Signing on as "Jeff Cobb" instead of "jeffrey_b_cobb" seems to have worked. Thanks.

My device ID is: YOUR-EA5F26F8EF.

Also, I was wanting to put out some flyers or perhaps a small display in my store to make others in the Asheville, NC area aware of WCG. Do you have any such that you could send or that I can have printed?

Your assistance is appreciated,
Jeff

We've added you request about a flyer to our to-do list. it's a good idea.

Re: Problems with hew install:

Thanks.

I thought WCG was a great idea when I first saw it, and I'm sure that in a progressive town like Asheville lots of people would sign up if they were aware of what you are doing.

Also, if corps could take any tax deduction for donating a percentage of their processing that would really help expand this enterprise.

Re: Problems with hew install:

Interesting you mention that.... tax breaks. For a private person, the discussion came to life at a German project and individuals wanting a certificate of contribution for deduction on their tax return. They could not immediately as the project was not tracking CPU time by member like WCG does, but the project manager had a positive ear for it. Not heard if IBM/WCG with it roots in the US, would entertain such certification of contribution. In a World Community Arena it's probably novel ground to break. Get a certificate from the U.S. (which is on the to-do list of WCG) not only stating the Work Units done at milestones, which was the plan, but also the CPU time and file it as a donation item on a foreign tax return. Can see all the hurdles the tax office would throw up, but hey, why not use the tax deduction as an sales point :D

Re: Problems with hew install:

Best if I just suggest that they check into the possibiltiy of tax credit.

I was also thinking coupons:

I run a mattress store and have friends that own a book store, pizza place and a coffeee house.
Have people bring in proof of signing up for a one time discount.
Easy to plug into existing ads/coupons.
Boosts a businesses public image while getting new customers in the door and giving existing customers a chance at a discount.

Seems to me that everyone wins in this scenario.
The grid gets bigger, people save money and businesses grow.
