Thus did u try installing BOINC in a different partition or outside C:\Program Files\ like e.g. C:\BOINC?

Where installed (exact path)?
What Security settings did you select?
Do you run as Administrator or as User?
Anything else noteworthy?

These posts at the BOINC development forum discuss Vista and give pointers regarding the firewall:

A: Add BOINC.exe, BOINCmgr.exe and BOINCcmd.exe to the Firewall exceptions with unlimited scope (this is assuming that your BOINC copy is an original as provided by BOINC dev or WCG, thyus vetted and secure).

Believe to have read that Final Vista no longer is so aggressive in closing allowing a bit more time, but don't know for sure.

i have spend all day trying and no joy. running vista and mcafee antivirus but cannot get it to work. disabled mcafee but still no luck. must be a vista issue. have tried everything suggested in related forums. any suggestions/fixes?

works fine on first bionc install but will not connect after reboot. ud agent will not connect to server at all.
