There may be a problem with 5.8.8 if you are running Vista restart your computer. (I haven't had to restart any XP machines.) I suspended the tasks (projects tab) and hit snooze (tool bar) then restarted computer. When it came back up the two WU's that had been running when I suspended them showed ready to report. I clicked update (projects tab) so that they reported then checked status online - error for both.

Try suspending the tasks then fully exiting Boinc. This is just an idea, as I am running XP and OS X, not Vista.

If u plan to boot the pc it's always a good idea to exit BOINC, so the situation gets fully written to disk. On restart, the work units should normally resume from the last checkpoint saved.
----------------------------------------The memory security models for Vista are quite different. Whether 5.8.8 was designed to fully consider this platform i don't know, but for a comment that Vista testing was taking place. Most people seem to be happy and crunch away on Vista Beta's for quite some time now.

BOINC should exit cleanly when you shut down your computer. If this fails to happen, then you are likely to lose some work. But is simply shouldn't happen, assuming you shut Windows down properly.
David_L6: if you can replicate this problem, then you should take it to the BOINC developers. We can do that for you if you want, but we will need a lot more information. |
