Hello jhtrico1850,
By my estimation, we finished the original planned tissue samples back in January. I may be wrong about that, but my impression was that Dr. Foran ( http://pleiad.umdnj.edu/IBM/ ) was running additional studies that he thought would be useful. I was surprised when the newsletter said that the project would run till June 2007. My current guess is that he was told that the project could run until June, when we would need to concentrate our limited manpower on supporting other projects. But he did not need all that time. I am just guessing here. Very few of our projects have definite sizes. Research is like that. It was almost funny watching new species having their genomes dumped into HPF1. We never knew what was coming until it was already being crunched. Lawrence |

Does anyone remember when that "March" newsletter was prepared and linked to on the website? And thanks for your courteous reply ![]() "If only all grid computing estimates were as accurate...." What are you alluding too? Any other projects ahead/behind schedule? There are no contracts.... it's all based on volunteers providing spare time, personal preferences of projects, sharing with other DC's, work added, scopes expanded, bugs requiring work to be recomputed, non-deterministic calculations making work units longer or shorter to process, one processor swifter/better suited for a particular calculation than the other..... the variables are numerous. Whilst, as one project is being accelerated, others are being slowed down to better time them. E.g. FAAH is running at lower pace to help it run back to back with the next phase in preparation.... I'm sure the thinking at time of drafting the newsletter was, to have HDC run thru to where the next cancer project starts.....substantially, a while back the UD agent system requirements were increased for HDC where it was thought that it would result in further slow done.... except it worked out to be an earlier resounding success as per the email circulated yesterday.

Last 4 days:
----------------------------------------1006 676 61 46 The stats pages for the project actually print production of yesterday. We've had set and forget agents send in work 3-4 months after project close (HPF1).... a member starting up an agent after months hiatus. Usually when a project draws to close extra copies are send out to close the batches. The scientists are very eager to move on and right they are.

There are a number of possibles why that was, one of them a set send out that did not meet the quality standards at the lab, being rerun on the latest version of application. I did not get any... with only 2.76 hours runtime average they will have gone to the fast return machines (those that return work under 16 hours from receipt).... many will not have even noticed it coming thru. Other possible is, that one or the other lab identified more samples to add to the database..... i'll let you know if i hear anything substantiating.

There was some work that wasn't finished yet and needed a small burst of activity. We are very close to total completion now.

For all to know, that Help Defeat Cancer is Done Done. Viktors advised that the last work is complete. Anything coming back now falls in the 'Too Late' category and has already been processed by submission of extra copies.
----------------------------------------The project will shortly be marked Complete, but * don't un-select yet*. Occasional processing might be required if the researchers discover one or the other has not made it to the database. ![]()
