Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

Looks like you're a power cruncher.
I ended up with 185 years CPU time & 21M points on Grid in personal stats.
Here it's taking a while longer to move up. There seem to be more power crunchers at WCG.
Since the move, I have generated a few points here.
Total Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) (Rank) 0:314:17:34:06 (#21,104)
Points Generated (Rank) 167,633 (#28,567)
Results Returned (Rank) 409 (#42,646)

I crunch for a purpose.
I've lost multiple family members to cancer & diabetes, and have a 14 year old son with a chromosome 2 duplication error. He's actually an unusual case in that most people with chromosome 2 damage who make it past birth rarely make it past 2 years of age. I'm hoping that some of the genetic research will help determine possible treatments to correct the damage, or at least to better understand what to expect in his future progress (will he ever achieve a higher mentality than a six to nine year old?).

jal2,

Thanks for your crunching efforts. Together we can all hope to help find cures for these insidious diseases and make life better.

Anyone ahead of him is applauded applause

(make sure to stretch it as long as you can laughing )

He's a machine. I will be happy if I can keep him at bay for another month.

I too crunch for a purpose.
That is why I pretty much stuck with the cancer project.
I lost my Mother & Grandmother to cancer.
My wife has diabetes in her family, she is borderline & her Mother/Sister/Brother are all insulin dependent.
I have had cancer 5 times myself. But currently I am seemingly healthy.
My original involvement with distributed computing started with the SETI project (I was in the top 100 individual producers there when I left), but when I found the cancer research, I switched.
There are no dual core machines in my fleet.
I have 11 computers at home and use another 40 or so (with the owners permission) at work.
Most are P4-1.8Ghz/512MB.
From what I can tell, the BOINC software seems to crunch faster than the UD software. Maybe it's just the projects they run, but it seems BOINC takes 12-16 hours per unit where UD takes 20-26 hours per unit.

Once I figured out that WCG sets the throttle at 60% by default, I turned up the thermostat... I had my first 1000 hour day yesterday.
So I may catch ya someday...LOL

biggrin Re: Un-official Grid.org Refugee Transition Center.

I came over about 6 months before UD closed down, didn`t have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that something was very badly wrong over there. This project is run in a much more professional manner,if there is a problem we are told about it and it is fixed in a reasonable time frame. What really annoys me is the thought of all that crunching time gone to waste but maybe the data was able to be used, I hope so. One thing I don`t miss however is the abscence of the person who used to write self important, long winded posts in annoying font colours although it would be interesting to see what positive "spin" he would apply to how UD treated its loyal crunchers. biggrin

1000 hours. I am lucky to do 1,000 points some days.

Have to work a little harder to pass me.

That is just so fun. I don't think I will ever get tired of that. PArt of the reason is I won't be able to do it in another week or so.
