Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

While we're having Confessional here I may as well fess up to my stats... biggrin

I was hatched in shortly after WWII started in April 1942... Quit School at 16 and joined the U.S.. Navy a year later in 1959.... Served two deployments in the BonHom Richard Aircraft Carrier in the North China Sea during Vietnam, then one deployment to Veitnam as a Flight Engineer in P3 Sub hunter aircraft. After the war I was stationed in several other countries... I got tired of gallivanting so I retired in 1979. (or was it my bride got tired of it?) tongue

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Evening all

There must be something in the atmosphere with all these confessionals going on this weekend.

All this military service going on. My experience was just a great roll. Two years national service - RAF - Officer training in the Isle of Man, then off to Canada for nine months training as Navigator, back in Britain offered the chance of going early, declined and finished with seven months in Germany.
It was the biggest holiday of my life.
I regretfully refused their kind offer to stay on because short term commissions only were on offer and I didn't fancy starting again in civvy street in my early thirties.

That's enough, I'm not going to say when and where I was born but Den knows we were quite close at one time.

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Well as National Service came to an end (apart from deferals) in about 1957....we can say your minimum age.....In 1957 you must have been at least 18...... wink

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

~~~~~~~~~~~Beautiful Old Age~~~~~~~~~~
It ought to be lovely to be old to be full of the peace that comes of experiance and ripe fulfilment.
The wrinkled smile of completeness that follows a life lived undaunted and unsoured with accepted lies.
If people lived without accepting lies they would ripen like apples, and be scented like pippins in their old age.
Soothing, old people should be, like apples when one is tired of love.
Fragrant like yellowing leaves, and dim with the soft stillness and satisfaction of autumn.
And a girl should say;
It must be wonderful to live and grow old.
Look at my mother, how rich and still she is!-
And a young man should think; By jove my father has faced all weathers, but it's been a life!-
D.H.Lawrence
Good night all
