August 13th, 1929 : Valentine’s Day Massacre

On this day, in Chicago, gunmen suspected to be in the employment of organised-crime boss Al Capone murdered seven members of the George "Bugs" Moran "North Siders" gang in a garage on North Clark Street. The so-called St. Valentine's Day Massacre stirred a media storm centred on Capone and his illegal Prohibition-era activities and motivated federal authorities to redouble their efforts to find evidence incriminating enough to take him off the streets.

I wonder if it was a Friday?

No was not a Friday Harold biggrin

This happened on Valentine's Day which is February 14, 1929 -- not August 13 as you stated. It was a Thursday as well.
