Re: Interesting News

Our Country knows very well about this kind of earthquakes ..

6.5 quake shakes buildings on California coast

A magnitude-6.5 earthquake struck off the coast of Northern California Saturday afternoon, shaking buildings, knocking out power in several coastal communities and leaving a trail of broken windows and dishes south of the Oregon border.
The powerful quake hit at about 4:27 p.m. PST about 22 miles from Ferndale, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Kind of a miracle that were no major injuries

Stay well and safe !

Billionaire Pinera wins Chile presidential election

Conservative billionaire Sebastian Pinera has won Chile's presidential run-off, ending two decades of centre-left rule.

Social Democrat Eduardo Frei conceded defeat after results from 60% of polling stations showed Mr Pinera with 52% of the vote to Mr Frei's 48%.

Mr Pinera promised a tough law-and-order programme and vowed to use his business know-how to boost the economy.

Outgoing President Michelle Bachelet was barred by law from standing again.

Mr Pinera has promised to continue her highly popular social policies

A History of the World in 100 Objects

Working with the BBC, Neil MacGregor, the Director of the British Museum, has launched a downright smart project. A History of the World in 100 Objects uses important pieces from the museum’s collections to recount the long history of humanity. Throughout the year, the serialized radio program will air 100 episodes, each averaging 15 minutes, and they will cover two million years of human innovation and artistic creation. Below, I’ve included a recent episode that revisits the Olduvai hand axe, a tool invented some 1.2 million years ago that proved vital to human evolution and our migration out of Africa

Re: Interesting News

Fifty years ago, four African-American freshmen from what is now North Carolina A&T sat down at the whites-only lunch counter at the F.W. Woolworth store in Greensboro, N.C., and asked for service. When the waitress refused, the students remained seated, and the sit-in movement began

Need a lift?

Unlike earlier devices called "jetpacks", the Martin Jetpack is the first to be considered a practical device. It has been under development for over 27 years and uses a gasoline (premium) engine with two ducted fans to provide lift. Theoretically it can reach a speed of 60 miles per hour, an altitude of 8,000 feet, and fly for about 30 minutes on a full fuel tank. It costs about $100,000. Martin Aircraft plans to deliver the first jetpacks to ten customers in late 2009 or early 2010

Antarctic Explorers' Century-Old Whisky Found

Seven crates of whisky and brandy left behind by Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic expedition have been recovered after over a century locked in the Antarctic ice. The expedition was forced to turn back short of reaching the South Pole in 1909 and left many supplies—including what must now be the world's best-chilled booze—behind under a hut.
