IS the cancer project Done?

I've looked around and I don't see anything on it so I am asking here. I noticed that I was doing the fightaids@home research and I knew I had only selected cancer in my profile.
I go over to my profile and see that cancer research is no longer an option.

Can someone direct me to a thread or explain what is going on?

Thank You.

Re: IS the cancer project Done?

If you look further down in the forum you posted in you will see lots of threads explaining why it finished and when it will start again.

Yes pond scum, the Help Defeat Cancer project as you discovered sits in the forum index 'Completed Research' section since a week. The Research pages were also relocated to the Completed Research (see left hand margin).

Some 'stragglers' who only occasionally crunch will still be able to send work as the time out for UD agent jobs is 2 months..... every day we see 1 or 2 being reported.

The HDC forum is left open until the researcher post their paperwork and summary. The forthcoming Help XXXXXXX Cancer project will have a new Support forum created when the time is there.

Re: IS the cancer project Done?

All members have received an email, if their email account was functional and the option to receive messages was selected in the member profile and of course when they were a member at time of distribution. The transmission discusses the closure announcement of HDC and an indication of the next Cancer project which computes X-Ray Crystallography. The plan is to start late Q2-07, Early Q3-07, but no guarantees as bugs in testing can still surface as show stopper.

cheers

Added: Will dig out the thread where the mail was posted integral.

Amazing, the search function works as always... here the post:

Re: IS the cancer project Done?

We are working with the HDC researchers to to provide a final update which: Summarizes the accomplishment, gives all of us an idea about what they plan to do with the results, and most importantly, to thank the volunteers who contributed portions of ther compute time to the project. We expect that this update will be posted in a couple of weeks and will let you know when it's there.

From their web site...

"Parabon also does gain commercially by sponsoring Compute Against Cancer. The company's business success depends upon having a strong supply of computational power. Your participation in Compute Against Cancer contributes to building that resource."

Re: IS the cancer project Done?

Yes... it all makes me feel very cynical. In particular: "For security reasons, when a task is running, you will not be able to tell whether it is for a paying client or a nonprofit researcher or organization."

And this is why I crunch for WCG exclusively. No paying customers to muddy the waters, and all the results are public domain.

I'm running computeagainstcancer; but I can't run WCG together to CAC, because it runs very slow: I need more than 50h to finish FAAH.. sad sad
