I read your comments on not being well taken by public opinion in Japan.
We also see some of this in the USA.
I see it as our job to educate these people.
When asked why I do this, this is my response and it might help you also when talking to people about DC work:

I have 2 daughters, aged 18 and 31.
My hope is that the work we do today will allow a Dr. to say to them years from now if they are afflicted by one of these diseases that the cures now exist because of the work done by people many years before."
