Hi there,
I've recently installed the BOINC-client on my aunt's computer (Win XP SP2). It has access to the internet via WLAN and received some tasks. Some days ago it said "Work in progress" when I looked for her work status on my personal WCG-site but now it tells me "No reply". So I think there is something wrong with the internet. Does the Windows firewall automatically block all uploads made by BOINC? Any ideas? I can't check that right now because my aunt doesnt live in my city and her computing skills aren't that great. =) Thank you, Damian |

Hi Damian,
----------------------------------------Did you tell your Aunt to not switch of the computer and have you installed it as a service, because if she signed out and it was installed as a single user, it wont run until she signs in again. No Reply means that 9 days have passed for a FA@H job and 11 days for a HPF2 job not to get returned. No special settings for WLAN are needed. BOINC will find its way thru the router to the WCG server as long as port 443 is open. The Windows Firewall I'd not worry about. It's a chunk of swiss cheese that by default lets anything out (It only checks incoming traffic)

I found out that the BOINC 5.8 cannot reconnect if you cut the power to the cable modem (problem ? with a new connection get a new IP number). This is fixed in the 5.10.13 on the BOINC download. You need to restart BOINC; ask Aunt to reboot computer.
