Thank you for joining our "Discovering Dengue Drugs – Together" project! Your computers will provide the global computing power necessary to identify promising drug leads to combat global infectious diseases. Our project will uncover drugs to stop viruses belonging to the family Flaviviredae, including dengue, hepatitis C, West Nile and yellow fever viruses. More than 40% of the world's population is at risk for infection by dengue viruses, and each year millions of people are treated for dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever. Approximately 2% of the world's population is infected with hepatitis C virus. West Nile and yellow fever viruses also have significant global impact. There are no drugs that effectively treat these diseases. With your generous help, we can work together to perform the comprehensive drug discovery calculations that will rapidly point us towards cures for these serious worldwide diseases.

Diseases associated with developing countries do not get the attention that they deserve. If a disease doesn't affect a lot of people in affluent countries, then it's treated like an orphan. Finding treatments for cancer and Alzheimers are worthwhile endeavors, but if you never live long enough to develop those diseases, they don't do you any good. Diseases like dengue are an immediate threat to people of all ages in the developing world so I'm very happy to see WCG stepping up to the plate on this one.
----------------------------------------I sponsor several children through the Christian Children's Fund. One of their biggest concerns is disease prevention. If we can contribute to the development of drugs that can wipe out some of the killers that now stalk these children, I'll be very happy. ![]() ![]() |

The graphic is now resizeable to full screen with the maximize box. Small gray text at the bottom explains how to page through graphics forward or backward, change text scroll speeds, or flip to/from some other static text boxes.

Estimates are estimates, but one of the articles notes 50,000 CPU years being needed. We do 5,500 per month on a shared basis with FA@H and HPF2 and more projects will go life in the near future, it thus will run for quite some time.
----------------------------------------It's not entirely spelled out, but this is Phase I, running like FA@H on AutoDock 4.0 2007 (or AutoDock 4.0 Update as is referred to in places). Opposed to Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy, there will though be no break. Phase II will start almost immediately if not before the end using the results of Phase I. Pretty exciting.
