I can't get by BOINC agent to run in screensaver mode only.
In the simple view I go to Preferences, click "I want to customize my preferences to this computer only" and set "Do work after idle for:" to 5 minutes but processor load is still 100% all the time. I understand that it is low priority but it is still affecting my machine performance and I would like the agent to run only when I'm not using the machine. Am I missing something? |

Click on the advanced view button.
That'll bring up the view with the tabs. Go to the activity menu. Make sure "run based on preferences" is selected. If it is, post back. |

I checked the the advanced view and the "Run based on preferences" is selected and it still runs all the time. |

In 5.10.x there are conflicts between what is set on the website and what's set in the local preferences (corrupt data input storage all the way thru 5.10.18). Use the clear button of 5.10 Local prefs, set on website profile and update project. The alternate is to edit the 'global_prefs_override.xml' and reload the file thru the 'Read Local Preferences' option.

I tried for weeks to get the Boinc version to run ONLY in screensaver mode and failed. The UD Agent version has a check box "Run In Screensaver Mode Only".
Boinc does NOT. You try and fiddle it with a combination of "Run when computer is in Use" check box and the screensaver/power save mode in control panel. No matter how hard I tried it DOES NOT run in screensaver mode only.....unlike the UD Version. |

My client is version 5.8.15
I couldn't find any "Clear" button anywhere, but I did find "global_prefs_override.xml". '<idle_time_to_run>' was already set to 5 minutes but I saved the file anyway and clicked "Read local prefs file". The simple view preferences still shows the idle time correctly as 5 minutes but agent is still running constantly. So no help there. I don't know where I could get version 5.10 since the website shows my version as the latest. |

There is a bug in 5.8, too. Open global_prefs_override.xml and delete the line: <run_if_user_active/>

You should be able to minimize it, or red X it out in the windows box, and it will shrink down to the icon level.Boinc does NOT. No matter how hard I tried it DOES NOT run in screensaver mode only.....unlike the UD Version. Just now I shifted to simple view and noticed another intermittent phenomenon in IE7. If the windows taskbar is unlocked, sometimes the top of the simple view gets "stuck" under the blue windows internet session tab taskbar. I have to go to somewhere in the blue area of the windows tab, right click it, and lock the taskbar. The top of the simple view drops below it to be visible. I can then hit the red x to shrink the simple view to the icon.

Only the line is in "global_prefs.xml", not "global_prefs_override.xml". |

Hello,
We are now one year later after the last post talking about this problem and i have this problem today when i downloaded the last BOINC program on my computer. It is not possible to apply that the BOINC program work only as screesaver ! This is a shame , i think. The problem must be revolve yet ! :(((( PS : Sorry for my aproximative english, i'm french.
