BOINC ignores "Do work after idle for X minutes" setting.
This is a known bug in BOINC 5.8.

Symptoms:
You set the "Do work after idle for X minutes" preference in the Simple View "Preferences" dialog. BOINC ignores the setting and runs all the time.



Workaround:
  • Clear the local preferences by deselecting the "I want to customize my preferences for this computer only" box.
  • Set your preferences online instead, by changing your default profile. Select "Custom Profile" and make the changes you need. Save the profile.
  • Your agent will get the new settings when it next contacts the server. You can force this to happen immediately using the "Update" button in the Advanced View.

Note:
For your preferences to be used, BOINC must be set to "Run based on preferences" in the Advanced View "Activity" menu.
