Gas could be the cavalry in global warming fight An unlikely source of energy has emerged to meet international demands that the United States do more to fight global warming: It's cleaner than coal, cheaper than oil and a 90-year supply is under our feet. It's natural gas, the same fossil fuel that was in such short supply a decade ago that it was deemed unreliable. It's now being uncovered at such a rapid pace that its price is near a seven-year low. Long used to heat half the nation's homes, it's becoming the fuel of choice when building new power plants. Someday, it may win wider acceptance as a replacement for gasoline in our cars and trucks...... If this country would ever cut the ties with the middle east nations, we would start using the energy we have under our feet. Natural Gas has never been an unlikely source of energy, we are just not allowed to tap into it. Just like the billions of barrels of oil that we can get to - we are not allowed. This has nothing to do with global warming, either. Man did not cause global warming - it's part of a cycle of this planet. Why is that so hard to figure out? It actually makes more sense than the lies that we've been shoveled. I wish people would just stop spreading this lie. There are people that need to go to jail over this and this kind of propaganda just gets in the way of that process. I am surprised to see that sheep that are still believing in man-made global warming. It truly has become a religion, now...

GPS Tracks Brutus the Wolf on Marathon Hunts Around the Arctic
A lone wolf named Brutus is helping U.S. Geological Survey scientists study Arctic wolf migrations in remote regions of Canada. These migrations can traverse hundreds of miles in 24-hour winter darkness at temperatures that reach 70 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. There’s no way humans can physically follow the wolves under these brutal conditions, so Brutus is sporting a GPS collar that beams his coordinates back to a satellite every 12 hours.... |

Foreign firms gain most from off-shore wind power deals
An offshore windfarm near Prestatyn, north Wales. Photograph: Christopher Thomond Foreign-owned firms today seized the lion's share of the development contracts to kickstart a wind revolution in offshore Britain that ministers say will eventually match the glory days of the North Sea oil industry. But Gordon Brown said he was still confident that UK supply firms could win many of the £75bn-worth of contracts needed to build enough clean power to generate 25% of the country's electricity... |

Chinese Coal Formed During Earth´s Greatest Extinction Is Still Deadly
----------------------------------------A seam of coal formed 250 million years ago during the worst extinction event on record appears to be responsible for the anomalously high lung cancer death rates among women in the rural Chinese county of Xuan Wei in Yunnan Province. It´s long been known that the lung cancer mortality rates in the region were the worst in the world among female nonsmokers and some anomaly in the coal had been suspected. Lung cancer mortality in the region is up to 20 times the Chinese average. But itâs only in recent years that scientists have focused in on silica in the form of very fine quartz as the mineral that makes burning the stuff so deadly. Now, in a paper published in December in Environmental Science and Technology, Chinese, British and American researchers have proposed a link between the silica in the coal and the massive event that nearly wiped out life at the Permian-Triassic boundary....... Snow-blanketed Britain seen from space
THE extent of Britain’s winter whiteout is revealed in a stunning picture from space... The nationwide blanket of snow and ice came as temperatures dipped to as low as minus 18. The image, sent byNASA’s Terra satelliteshows the UK framed by cloud sweeping in from the East. Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond declared it Scotland’s worst winter in 50 years, while forecasters said the country faces another ten days of freezing conditions. Britain’s usual green glow is wiped out in the chilling picture, which was picked up by the Dundee Satellite Receiving Station, overlooking the River Tay,,,,. Based at Dundee University staff at the satellite maintain an up-to-date archive of images from four polar orbiting satellites, as well as geostationary satellites covering the whole earth. The snowy snapshot of Britain will be used by the Natural Environment Research Council which funds science projects at universities across the country Click on the images, is amazing , oh dear .. |
