Hello,
I run Seti and Einstein using Boinc. Decided To add the grid also. On my first attempt the grid loaded but then the others almost grinded to a halt. Later I found out that the cpu settings were changed for Seti and Einstein when I installed the grid. Tried again, set up the preferences for the grid, and they all ran in harmony--for a few minutes. Same thing happened. Does anyone here know why this would be happening. I'd really like to try this again. Thanks, Dan |

If you use BOINC already, just attach BOINC to WCG. Don't use the old UD agent! We're phasing that heap of junk out.
Just attach to www.worldcommunitygrid.org using the name and password you have set up already. |

If you are, you may have preference contentions and the WCG prefs competing with BAM. WCG does *not* get updated by BAM and other account managers.

Okay, Danny9. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
I still don't understand what the problem is, though. You say Einstein "shuts down". That isn't really specific enough for me to help. Please will you a) explain exactly what you are observing to decide that Einstein is "shut down", and b) copy the messages from BOINC's message tab (from when you started BOINC up to the section where you had this problem). Thanks. |

Thanks. I run the projects on % of time running. eg. 70% to 30% between Einstein and Set. Right now Einstein is running at 100% cpus. With the grid installed it would run at 10%, go up to 50%, down to 0% etc. of cpu usuage. It would take a very long time just to crunch a few minutes. The same with Seti. It affects the running of these programs. |

Okay, there are two things going on here.
1) Project weight. This is the amount of time BOINC spends on each project. It isn't a percentage! BOINC adds all the weights up, and divides by the total to get a fraction for each project. If Einstein is 70, SETI is 30, and WCG is 100 (default) then WCG will get 50%, Einstein 35% and SETI 15%. 2) The throttle. This is the "Use no more than: X% of processor time" setting. It seems that your preferences have been overwritten by the WCG defaults - that shouldn't happen, so I'm not quite sure what happened. Anyway, you can correct them here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default Update BOINC to make the new preferences active immediately. |
