BOINC Screensaver

The screen saver provided by the new BOINC client has static images on large portions of the screen. Is this a problem? I'd hate to have to uninstall because the screen saver doesn't protect my screen as it should.

Re: BOINC Screensaver

What OS is this on and what project? The BOINC Screensaver does not work properly on Vista yet, thus best switch to an other or just blank.

LCD screens far as i know are immune to this, but the display should change regularly or have a frame bouncing around in full screen.

Re: BOINC Screensaver

It is on Windows XP. Not sure which project and am not at the machine now. The screen saver image was a row of multicolored balls that changed very gradually. The background was a gray pattern that didn't seem to change. There were several titles and logos at the top and bottom of the screen that didn't move at all.

Re: BOINC Screensaver

That would be the Help Conquer Cancer graphics. Not realized that in full screen it would only be the spheres being the moving part and the rest static.

Re: BOINC Screensaver

I don't think it is a problem anymore on LCD flat screens. But if you use an older CRT it is.

Re: BOINC Screensaver

The BOINC screensaver can be configured to go to blank after a specified interval.

Do you mean setting the Windows power-off option for the display to activate after the screensaver is started? I already do that, except that I use the 'blank' screensaver. Turning the display on and off too often wears out the display electronics so I rapidly go to 'blank' but only power down after a long interval (longer than lunch).

Re: BOINC Screensaver

When native English cannot converse with each other, it's time to for them to permanently abdicate from the aspirations to ever be understood by the rest of the world.

Mine is set to use the "Vuota" as in Empty or as *some* English use "blank".

(turns around and walks away in complete despair)

Re: BOINC Screensaver

No, Lawrence. Select the BOINC screensaver. Click "Settings".

Marvel at the panoply of options available.

Re: BOINC Screensaver

Right, Didactylos.

Checking, I find that he BOINC screensaver has 1 option under Settings in the Control Panel - Display section of Windows - it goes blank after X minutes.

I never noticed that, since I only ran the BOINC screensaver once as an experiment.
