Re: Science and all that stuff

Chris, EVERTHING is a problem in the UK.
Taxes, Fuel Prices, MPs expenses, and yes even Moss!wink

Sorry to hear that. I have a mate living in the UK. Now I better understand his concerns, but I think his problems will get worse as he is soon to move to London. Well, maybe in London moss is not that much of an issue.

Re: Science and all that stuff

Evening all

Very warm this afternoon so I had no excuse and did sort out the grass with a clear up and mower and clippers.

To be honest, the moss wasn't as bad as I feared and, in fact, less than in the last couple of years. I always spike it in the autumn but with the London clay underneath it needs tearing up and putting some gravel or something to help the drainage. You can imagine what I say to that idea.

I saw the difference when they dug up Lord's a couple or so years back. The old drainage was completely useless. The whole network was blocked with clay. Now it has about a metre and a half of various layers including such things as horse hair to stop future compression. A system developed by Football clubs.

And, last year when there was a 'monsoon' and in half an hour the ground was looking like a lake, and an hour and a half later it was ready for play again.
