By the way is there a reason our results are quite low the pas few days? our largest daily contributor, anhhai, is on holiday, i believe. the same thing happened last summer, and once he returned our results kicked up significantly. hopefully, it's a similar story this summer. macromancer |

Id eat my hat to see what kind of setup Anhhai is using. There must be a while server rack of things cooking WU's.
----------------------------------------I've been pretty lazy on them lately mysself. I have a small raspberry pi going full bore on its four cores with one WU each. ![]() Ive been picking parts for a dedicated WU machine, but I still am on the fence for wether I should go Intel or AMD. Im usually a stickler for Intel when making my personal machines, but I would be doing this for everyone so my personal preferences can go out the window. I checked the forums here and there doesnt seem to be too much, so far just one post describing which are the best cpu's to donate with. Do any of you have insight you could share? ![]() |

Hi Zephyrspark:
Your RasberryPI rig is very cool. Regarding your CPU question, AMD or Intel, with everything it depends. I have a dual socket HPZ800 with two Xeon X5660 CPUs @ 2.8GHz. Prior to covid, these were $15 cpus, and old Z800 machines were inexpensive. I run 12 jobs on these 24/7. The CPUs have two threads per core, so I could run 24 jobs, but the hyperthreading with the specter meltdown patch is terribly slow, which is why I stick to one WU per core. One major drawback to the older Xeon CPUs is they are power hogs . . .incredibly inefficient by modern standards Regarding AMD, I have used every iteration of the Ryzen CPU, including the latest generation. For crunching, I really like the Ryzen 7 2700. Pre-covid these were cheap and plentiful. I run 8 jobs on the 8 cores at 3.2GHz 24/7 pulling only 56 watts on the CPU. You can run 2threads per CPU, i.e. 16 jobs in total and get a small uptick in daily job throughput, but I generally run 8 to 12 jobs in total on this CPU. I hope this helps with your search.
