This is odd. I started with WCG in mid-May, and within a couple weeks had 3 computers running pretty much non-stop. Only a couple days ago did I notice my very first badge. It was for DDD. HOWEVER, when I go to the Results Status page on the website, select "All" Devices, "Valid" Results and the DDD Project Name, the total of all the hours listed in the CPU time DOES NOT come anywhere near 336 (14 days times 24 hr's./day).
So, while I'd love to look at the little mosquito, I don't see how I've earned it. I'd rather wait until it's deserved. And while I can't take the time to count the hours on page after page of Valid results for all the projects, I find it peculiar that, even spread over all 5 projects, 3 computers can't come up with at least 2 weeks worth of work on any single project. I don't believe my efforts are being evenly divided between projects, since I see some projects showing up more frequently than others. Any ideas on what I'm missing? |

oh boy
is this really your concern? |

My real concern was that, in the almost-two-years since you've been a member, you've only seen fit to post six times before now. I'm very proud of the fact that I've written something that brought you out of your shell for number seven.

I'd rather wait until it's deserved. If you got it you deserve it. ![]() Talking about peculiar things, when you looked at your results you have not found it strange that there was no WU older than, say , about mid-June more or less? Validated WUs disappear from the Results Status pages a few days after validation. If you are crunching for all projects as I understand, now that you have got your first badge you should not have to wait too long for seeing the others come too. Cheers. Jean. Added: A Multi or All Project cruncher is not getting an even spread of work as observed. WCG controls the overall work distribution where those that selected only 1 project get priority leaving the remainder of a project share for the pool of multi/all project clients. If thus e.g. 90% of RICE is taken by the single project crunchers and 30% by the DDDT specializers it leaves 10% of RICE+70% of DDDT. The ratio for the multi/all project crunchers would thus end up something like 7 DDDT : 1 RICE, which would explain why you got that one first.
----------------------------------------Obviously 3 machines doing 3 weeks 24/7 would generate 9 weeks work, but given the above and what you saw it might be that you got much more done for 1 or 2 projects. Now for the boring part, if any of your machines runs windows get the 3rd party BOINCview application. It tallies all jobs completed locally for all your hosts connected to your LAN. Using project filters allows for easy review of work done for each project. OR, you could open up the job_log_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.txt file to see all the jobs done and use the abacus to bead each projects contribution up. Good news is, it is planned for each member to be able to see his contribution by project on the My Grid page starting with a future Website update. When? Don't know. ![]()

when you looked at your results you have not found it strange that there was no WU older than, say , about mid-June more or less? Good catch. No, I didn't. Perhaps because I only began doing this mid-May. After you pointed it out, I now see that DDDT's earliest "Valid" was about 2 weeks ago. Though I also find that other projects keep the results for a longer period. The HP Folding project shows a "Valid" the end of May. But it would certainly be easier for me to spot missing dates if I had 6 months worth of history. Thank you. |

...if any of your machines runs windows... It's all strictly Mac. And thank you for the explanation of how the allocations occur. I originally got involved after reading a USA Today article about the Rice project. Rather than have any downtime if there was nothing at the moment to crunch, I opted to sign up for everything. Now I understand how that decision impacted the work overall. |

HPF2 has both a long delay for returning results and a large distribution. Therefore that may take a while for all WUs to be returned and it will probably not be purged before then, plus a few days. Add a few redistributions with additional (but shorter) delays and you get it.
----------------------------------------But it also happens that some WU stays there with no obvious reason (I have an old Rice one like that) although there might be a good hidden reason as well. Simply, don't worry about that as long as you get your credits. ![]() Cheers. Jean. |

Here's how things look if you crunch with zero buffer before a planned trip. Having been away for 14 days and no result returned since the evening of June 20, the points kept trickling in and about 7.5 days worth of CPU time got credited:
----------------------------------------07/03/2008 0:000:15:39:39 1,543 3 3 results took 14 days to get through the validation cycle, so in virtual terms you may have more badges already. Partee

Here's how things look if you crunch with zero buffer before a planned trip... Very coincidental you mention that. I was out of town from June 22-29, inclusive. A couple days before I left, I selected the "No New Tasks" option for two of the three computers, wanting them to just finish what they were working on. Forgot to do so for the slowest computer. So it was shut down after processing a project for 19 hours. I discovered this on my return, only to find it still had about 7 hours left. Even though a warning appeared saying I should abort the work since it was already late, I let the computer continue to process just to see what would happen. There was also a message that the job was being given the highest priority, so I thought there was a small chance the work would still be accepted. But the final result was no credit granted. I can guarantee it won't happen again... ![]() |
