When I use the web and enter the Device Profile Definitions of the Device Manager
![]() there is a radio button for "Maximum Output" When the "Maximum Output" option is selected, all the other option specifications go away leaving the user wondering just exactly what has been selected and what values are set. Is there somewhere that describes what parameters are specified when "Maximum Output" is selected? Thanks (and yes, I did do some research when one presses the HELP button of the screen above; the following site is presented:Getting Started; Overview & Troubleshooting There does not seem to be anything this specific detailing what the exact parameters are that are set. |

Barney,
Taken from here :
How you can ever get more than 100% is another thing of course ![]() Basically, the maximum output says what it means - do absolutely no throttling and let the machine do as much processing as other processes on the machine allow. Maximum output is OK as long as you have enough cooling as the processor(s) are running 100% of the time and getting no chance to cool down. Processors are meant to run at 100% but in overclocked desktops and laptops it may cause a problem. Have a look at this which discusses ThreadMaster and ThreadMaster GUI which can be used to help with cooling. |

thank you for your explanations and links.
While I presumed those were the kinds of settings; I was interested in setting such as; network connectivity; HDD consumption; switching times; and all the other non-obvious settings. I do appreciate your assistance in providing edumication to me and the appropriate links for reference. Thanks ---Barney |

What you set there, on the website, is the same as what stares/stuart posted earlier today in thread, speak the link to the wiki for (local) preferences, each field with a description of the function.
----------------------------------------The link Didactylos provided has a second article following, listing down all the fields with the defaults as used by WCG. They are pretty much the same to the BOINC defaults embedded in the client. From thereon it's you who has to make the choices as to how you want to run the device.... there is no "best", rather the defaults are what makes it tick for most right out of the box with some WCG specifics for best "average" client-server interaction. What I do know from past experience on the boards is, that a few dive in, start mucking with All of the settings instead of one or a few and see if it works to satisfaction, don't remember what they did and time and again have to call in the troops. It took me a longer time to understand the interrelations, experiment and read and google.... I'm mostly an auto-didact-ylos and still not finished grasping the finesse ![]()
