Although the badges aren't really important, we are all human and seek recognition and validation of our work and worth. Some more than others, and anything we can do to help people stay connected benefits the projects.
Being a newcomer, I have an idea to update the badge system, given that the Grid has generated over 170,000 years of work. We all know about the badge after 14 days. What about a badge after 100 days on a project, where the badge is the same but with a small C in the bottom right corner (C for century or 100), then also a badge with an A in the bottom corner for 365 days (A for Ano or Annual). If you have the data for all of time immemorial, the badges could be updated for those affected. With that implemented, what about Team Badges. When a team has 10 members with a badge, then the team gets the same badge on the Team page. 10x14 is a badge, 10x100 is the C-badge, 10x365 is the A-Badge. Maybe the 10 is the wrong number, but the milestones must be significant. |

A few similar ideas have been kicked around already.
Nothing will be done until after the credit harmonization, though. Thank you for your suggestion. |

Its nice to know that you would at least consider a suggestion from a greenhorn

Actually,... I'd like to see the badges be randomly displayed.. you know... everyone sees one of about 12 for each project..
Or... one for every test set... we all know these are grouped into test sets... so having a new badge for every test set.. would certainly keep things interesting and ever changing! ![]() |

Hi Sek,
Noticed your reference in a RICE thread that you are conscious of a potential drop in crunching once people get their RICE badge. Hence a benefit to earning an additional badge or badges for those crunching on and on. |

In the unsaid department, there's something else that keeps a group of crunchers going for this project in particular, amongst very light and guaranteed run time

I cannot say how to split it between
----------------------------------------- members running after their badge - members really interested by this project - members needing a guaranteed 8-hour duration for their slower machines - WCG techs pushing the joystick more towards Rice than other projects currently but Rice is usually as good or better than other projects since several days or weeks. See Rice project stats and compare it to others if you have any doubt. Cheers. Jean. |

We cannot know what causes people to choose WCG or one of its projects. In looking at the Project stats, it looks as if DDDT actually needs the help as it is the only project where yesterday's performance is below the project average(s).
But you have accurately surmised that we cannot know what hooks people in, so anything we can do to encourage people to crunch, benefits the projects. Maybe we really need to target the people who quit after 14 days to stay for 100. Maybe its about member retention, not member recruitment. Those of us in for the long haul are going to pick up a 100 day and then a 365 day badge. But there are a lot of inactive members and machines. Only 20% of all members were active yesterday. Maybe we can stoke the fire in our members once again with more rewards; rewards that we know are meaningless on one hand, but nevertheless crave to earn on the other hand. |

it looks as if DDDT actually needs the help as it is the only project where yesterday's performance is below the project average(s). DDDT is a particular case. At present they have some difficulty to handle all the results that we could provide them, therefore the techs have to keep it at a slower pace. However if you remember that - DDDT has been in no-redundancy mode for several weeks - each DDDT WU includes several cases together the difference with other projects is less than raw stats make it look like. Cheers. Jean. |

I'm expecting that when storage capacity issue is resolved at the scientists end to see DDDT receiving more throttle. You know about 1 + 0 = 10
