Hi,
----------------------------------------I have downloaded at the same time what appears to be two copies of the same work unit: X0000051230676200506161139_0. What would be better for me to do? Crunch both or abort one of them? Thanks, rrsmac. [Edit 1 times, last edit by TKH at Sep 8, 2008 12:02:24 PM] |

Hello rrsmac,
I am puzzled, but I would leave it alone and let the staff look at this. There may be a bug in a server script. Have you looked in your BOINC directory to see if these files appear to be identical? Lawrence |

Just in general, is this a good thing or a bad thing? It would seem to me that the fact that the two processes are on the same machine should be irrelevant.

rssmac,
----------------------------------------Not happened in 203 million result so see not why now two copies. Possibly there was a transmission hickup and is the a bug in the client telling the server that the file did not arrive properly and a second copy was send. If truly 2 with the same _0 suffix, I'd suspend 1 and also check in the Result Status page as to what the server thinks there should be on the client. What client version? Can you copy / paste the list from the Result Status page please. ciao

Hi Sekerob,
----------------------------------------I'm running client version 5.10.45. When I go to result status and click on either one of the work units in question this is what I see: Project Name: Help Conquer Cancer Created: 09/07/2008 04:06:30 Name: X0000051230636200506161139 Minimum Quorum: 2 Initial Replication: 2 Result Name Status Sent Time Time Due / Return Time CPU Time (hours) Claimed/ Granted BOINC Credit X0000051230636200506161139_ 0-- In Progress 09/07/2008 14:41:12 09/19/2008 14:41:12 0.00 0.0 / 0.0 X0000051230636200506161139_ 1-- In Progress 09/07/2008 14:33:41 09/19/2008 14:33:41 0.00 0.0 / 0.0 ...so it looks like they have different suffixes. But if I double click on the WCG icon in the corner and bring up the client, it shows the two work units as having been downloaded at the same time (today at 15:41:12) and having the same 0 suffix. I'm not crunching either at the moment but will start crunching the first in about two hours and the second in about three. Regards, Ryan. ? Are you telling that the main My Grid > Result Status page on the server lists _0 twice? That would be an absolute unique situation. Can you make a screen shot and post?
----------------------------------------The quickest is to abort both on the client at which the servers will send 1 more out to someone else. Suspending one copy is no good as it stops work fetching and aborting one copy leaves you with a job that will have already been marked on the server as no longer on your computer i.e. you would not get credit. cheers

Sekerob, I understood him to mean the duplicate was on the client, but the Results Status page showed different copies were sent.
----------------------------------------The client isn't designed to deal with duplicate names. There are a few places where work unit names are assumed to be unique - I have absolutely no idea what would actually happen. But the scheduler is designed not to sent multiple copies of the same work unit to the same host. rrsmac, I think you are misinterpreting the Results Status page. On the work unit page, only the copy highlighted in orange was sent to you; the other one was sent to someone else. Is it possible that you misread the names shown in the client? Thank you. Solved.
No need to paste anything, rrsmac, and no need to abort anything. It appears that you misread two similarly named work units. In your opening post, you name: X0000051230676200506161139_0 - and in a later post, you name X0000051230636200506161139_0 It's just one digit off. Play spot the difference! |
