For those interested, our next big team milestone will be returning our one millionth result. At our current rate, we're probably looking at mid to late April for that. As for our year end outlook, we are at 66,148,886 thru today. That leaves 8,851,114 to go, or 170,214 per day, to make 75 million. Clearly, I'd like to seriously beat that. My current thoughts for 2009 is instead of going for a big target like that, we may ought to consider something different, like raising our team daily points average to 300,000. I'm thinking that sort of goal will be a true challenge as it will likely mean we'll have to take multiple approaches to it - adding new machines, upgrading machines, keeping folks crunching and, most significantly, adding new members. If we can regularly hit 300,000 a day, that's 42,857 credits a day, that will also accomplish a number of other things for us too. Thoughts anyone? I personally think the most effective way to increase MOT output will/would be in recruiting new members. Of course some increases can be made by old members but not to the extent that new blood can add. To this end, we might want to think about what attracts people to a team and what does not? What about this forum attracts people and what turns them off? What about our website attracts them and what turns them off? Why would a newcomer join this team as opposed to that? What can one team offer potential members that another cannot? Do we offer any incentives? Are we more helpful? Do we have information to offer that they cannot find as easily elsewhere? I don't pretend to understand psychology, but I really think that that if we are satisfied with the way things are, we should continue the way we are, if not, then we need to think about what we should change. That’s my 2 cents worth. |

That’s my 2 cents worth. RT, I think our future is going to depend on two things - keeping the members we have and getting new members. The BIG challenge with getting new members is that getting them from existing WCG members is daunting to say the least. There's not really any active way to do that aside from keeping the team thread active and hoping someone reads it and is convinced to join us. To get new members, we've got to introduce grid computing to folks who don't know about it, convince them to get involved in it and to join us all at the same time. |

Ughhh -- I've been up most of the night fighting malware battles on Yahoo!Answers. It has been a najor siege there for at least 3 weeks. I hope we never see it here in the WCG forums. I use Spysweeper and seems to do a good job--using it for four years |

Ughhh -- I've been up most of the night fighting malware battles on Yahoo!Answers. It has been a najor siege there for at least 3 weeks. I hope we never see it here in the WCG forums. I use Spysweeper and seems to do a good job--using it for four years Gerald -- as an individual, that would do the trick. The problem we have been working on is that the Russian Mafia (or some other group in Russia) has been creating about a hundred new userid's on Yahoo!Answers a day and then using a bot to answer about 20 questions with each userid. Each of the answers contains a hot link to a website which can download the virus to the unsuspecting user who clicks on the link. A number of us have been working hard to identify the offending posts and userid's so that they can be removed from the site. It has been rather intense. |
