Not a bad showing for only 35 of us. No milestones to crow about, so I just thought I would say thank you to Keith for taking the time each evening to condense the stats down for easy reading for all of us on the team." Dittos to that and kudos--Dave is it freezing up there yet? |

Jonathan and I have found you can run 5 cores using 6.3.10 ... 4 plus the card. ![]() Cheers! I've been following your and Master Figdor's comments here concerning GPU processing fairly closely and would consider adding myself to the MOT team at PS3Grid if what you say is true. As far as I've read on the PS3Grid forums, running a WU solely on the GPU won't be available til version 6.3.11. Some users have stumbled upon situations where they've found 3 WU's crunching on Dual Cores (5 on Quads), but that seems to be an error and GPU times have suffered or CPU's have slowed down considerably. If I can keep all my WCG WU's running as they are on the various cores PLUS add something for the GPU to crunch, I'm in. Well, after finding a deal on a 9800GTX (still expensive up here). Also, are you setting up your machines with dual video cards (one for GPU crunching and one for everyday use) or just replacing the existing with a PS3Grid compatible one? Anxious to hear some comments from you both. Hiya [gunner] thank's for stopping by. I've been running an 8800GT card for a few weeks and an 9800GTX for only a few days. My Boinc client is 6.3.10. and on PS3Grid. It is still in BETA and in it's infancy. Here's what I've found: 1. #WU's: It is sporatic. You can force it to run five (1 GPU and 4 others) by using the method Jonathan described above. At other times it will do it without any intervention. At other times it just runs 1-3. I have not found anything yet that tells me why. ??? I have not seen any difference in performance ... but can't say I have looked at it either. 2. Run times: WU's run between 12 hours and <24 hours. (They have 2 different projects). 3. Quorum/Return Time: The quorum is 1 but the return times are short (2 days for one project and 4 days for the other) 4. Credits: Every wu I have run received 3232.06 credits. It does not matter which project or how long or short the run time. It almost appears to be hard coded. 5. 8800 vs. 9800 card: The 8800 uses only one power feed but the 9800 requires two. The 9800 produces A LOT more heat but only runs the wu ~10% faster. So far I am not impressed with the 9800. But again, I have not been doing this very long and have no previous GPU experience. 6. I have "heard" the folding@home GPU client is completely different and does allow running 5 at a time. I have not looked into this. That's about all I know so far. Maybe Jonathan can add something as he has been doing it longer. Cheers! ![]() EDIT: No I am just using the new card. On both machines the original card is imbedded in the MB and it "appears" to overide it. Hey, DM, if you really don't like your 8800 gt, I am willing to trade plus some more money for my 8800Gt. See, I game in addition to crunch on it, and the 9800GT is a badass card. |

I have seen it snow by now in other years, |

It will only give me 3 cores and GPU (which is probably safer heatwise anyway). In any case, the guaranteed 3200 points per day is very very nice. I produce about as much with my GPU as my quad on fullbore at QMC! |

I want to see what happens when there is a production version of a GPU client. I have one running 5 and one with 4 right now. As I said in my email to you, I think it is changes being made to their wu's as neither of our config's have changed. Else, it is just some strange quirk in 6.3.10. As [gunner] suggested we should look at cpu utilization when on of the 5'ers is running. But not now ... the Talladega race is starting. ![]() ![]() |
