Participate in all projects?

If I opt to participate in all projects, how dose the grid decide to send me work?

Re: Participate in all projects?

Hello kinday,
The staff have allocated preferred percentages of grid effort to each project. The server tries to allocate work according to those percentages while obeying each member's preferences. For example, if a lot of people ask for CEP-only in order to quickly earn a bronze badge, then everybody else will be allocated work from other WCG projects.

OK, thanks.

I joined to crunch for the CEP project but will probably just let the grid send whatever’s available. biggrin

Re: Participate in all projects?

Hi kinday!
Thank you for your patience which helps balancing distribution.

Without becoming an exclusive CEP cruncher you can improve your probability to get CEP WUs : select CEP only in your profile and check the box " If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project.".
This way, for the servers, you will come after the CEP-only devices but before the all-project ones. And in case of temporary shortage of CEP you will still receive work.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Participate in all projects?

if all you want to do is crunch CEP then by all means only run CEP

but i agree check the if no work is avalible box...

you will probaly notice alot of people here are badge crazed... like me... and will shut off other projects for a short time to get there badge

right now i have my computers doing rice and CEP only (with the if no work box checked) as soon as i get enough work to get the gold's i will re-open to all work

personaly i wish there was a way you could tell them what percentage of each project you wanted to run but they dont have that option so its pretty much all or nothing with your choices

hope you enjoy this project and hope we can answer all your questions

Re: Participate in all projects?

There is nothing wrong about being a badge hunter, as long as you continue to crunch WCG after you get the badge you are looking for. I believe there will be badges for crunch time of more than 90 days sometime in the future, so I can both happily crunch along and, for now, pretend that I am earning badges that will show up one day. Who knows what might happen

Re: Participate in all projects?

i agree there is nothing wrong with badge hunting

its just for everyon else who is not badge hunting and has all projects selected they will likely get other projects instead of what the badge hunters are curently going after

mind you this could be good if the new project has some bad first work units or if it has some extremly long ones...

eithor way it dosnt hurt to badge hunt i agree
