I know this would probaly be useless to most people but I was wondering if it would be posible to have a history of your stats while you are doing the updateing of stats.
----------------------------------------right now i am sitting at Message The page you requested is currently unavailable because the statistics are being updated. The statistics update will finish in about 90 minutes 41 seconds. i know you update stats 2x a day and they take somewere between 50 min and 3 hours... i was wondering if it would be posible to have a copy of the last stats calculation say 12 hours ago updating or a link or so to a copy made just before the update starts so for the time the curent stats are offline you could have something to look at.. i know the newer people who come and check there stats might want this also while your stats update is in progress it is imposible to swap what tasks you are set for or modify other statistice... sometimes i only have an hour or so a day to check and adjust things on my computers and it would be nice to have the flexibility to change things if it was needed or desired. just a thought ![]() |

We are currently migrating the site (and everything that goes along with it) to a brand new set of top of the line servers. Hopefully this will reduce the amount of time that it takes to run the stats updates, and it won't be as big an issue.
If it continues to take 1.5+ hours to run the stats updates after we are on the new servers, then we will look at technical ways to increase the availability of the site. |

...maybe peeps would not moan so much if they realised that theupdate time at UDwas 4 hours plus! Saying it was worse in the past is no argument to say there is no reason to improve. Anyway I'm quite satisfied with Nelsocs' answer. ![]() |

i did some work at UD along time ago yep i knew they were long times
----------------------------------------still saying it would be nice.. or at least be able to adjust what type of work units you are set to recieve reading through posts you get that guy every now and then who signs up and starts geting work he dosnt want logs in goes to my grid to change what his project is running and it is mid stats update the quicker the updates the better and i will wait and hope that the new facility computers are "that fast" that its dosnt feel like forever but i am kinda wondering how many crunches we lost do to the fact they couldnt de-select say RICE or CEP for that 2 hour window and didnt just say well i will wait but just went to there BOINC and clicked detach and are running some other BOINC projects ![]() |

I don't understand why the site has to be down while the stats are updated.
Couldn't there just be a count-down clock on the page that relates the next *publishing time* of the stats? Then you can refresh the page to get the new info. Why kill the site? Why can't the stats be updated in the background? Why take the 'old' stats off-line? I don't see the sense in it at all. Nobody else takes their site off-line in order to update it. Think of it- Amazon and iTunes would lose millions! "Oh- sorry! You can't buy anything just now, we're updating our inventory!" Over the holidays I tried to introduce my brother to WCG. I wanted to show him the statistics page with the world map and my own progress with various projects... no dice: updating. He's got at least a half-dozen PCs at home running 24-7 and is amenable to joining up, but the first impression was poor. Don't get me wrong- I've got lots of love for everyone here. ![]() I just see this 'update' thing as a very poor web strategy. |
