Sad news for MOT

I think we'll overtake Canada by the 21st May. Ploetner has plumped for the 18th May.

Sadly, I don't think it's going to happen, absent a huge surge in recruitment.

crying crying crying crying crying crying

It looks like our new distributed rendering software does NOT like the WCG client. I'm going to have to remove it. I *might* be able to run it at night. I'm trying to determine if I can let it run on a schedule automatically or if I'll have to manually activate and deactivate the software depending on our rendering schedule... it depends on the precise level of antipathy our rendering software has for the grid software.

Either way, without the current 24/7 crunching schedule those nodes currently enjoy, I expect I'll lose my top 10 ranking in short order, and sadly, MOT's ranking is going to take a beating, as well, unless (or until!) we get enough new members on board to compensate. I should be able add in several admin machines that aren't involved in rendering here, so that will help somewhat, but that won't come close to making up for the loss of 30 fast machines... I can only think of about 6 machines I can use, because we are mostly Mac-based and there aren't many PCs here (until the WCG releases a Mac OSX client).

Sorry to let the team down like this... I wish there was something I could do, but until (or unless) the conflict is resolved, I can't run the WCG client anymore on those machines... actual work has to come first, or we won't be around to pay for the care and feeding of the machines anyway!

Re: Sad news for MOT

Compudude,

Do not be sorrow, it is not the end of the world my friend. You did a awfull lot for the WCG and the MOT and even if you have to scale down to 1 machine you are still a valueable member of the MOT.... and the WCG smile
I'll hope that the next release of your rendering software solves this problem, you can try to scedule the WCG-client to run only at night with the device settings... it is not perfect, I know, because you can only scedule one timeframe between 00:00 - 24:00hrs ( for instance start 00:00 - end 07:00 ) but it is better that nothing at all.... cool

I warned You guys... this BIG cruncher is crying now.... wink wink

Your team mate ( who will never is comming close to the points of CD )

Re: Sad news for MOT

Compudude --

It is sad, both for our team and for the WCG as well, that your render farm will not be able to parcipate in this humanitarian effort. The good news is that you have found some other systems which will allow you to continue to participate!

Just to scale the contribution you have made to the WCG, your 3,072,169 points position you in 8th place among the members of the WCG. Had you chosen to go it alone as a team, you would be in the 39th position among the 4470 teams in the WCG.

As your team mate, I am pleased and flattered that you chose to join our team. I remember the thread where you were trying to choose a team when your Black Rock City team commemorating the Burning Man didn't seem to be taking off (I hope you have your calendar marked for August 29 - September 5 this year). You spent a good deal of time looking at what all the active teams had to offer and chose to join us.

Now that you will be scaling back your participation, I want you to know that you are just as valued as a member of "My Online Team" as you have been in the past. We will make it past this and will continue to thrive.

Your friend and team mate,
