Re: What is with the short deadlines?

I think I see your situation correctly. That's the reason why I have been so clear about aborting repair WUs without any guilt feelings.

When the weekend starts these machines are no longer eligible for these repair WUs. When they become "reliable" again it is too late for processing repair WUs in time. Therefore, no regret, immediately abort any repair WU which cannot be returned before the end of the weekend as soon as you see it.
As the short deadlines are 20 % of the normal ones all short deadlines are shorter than the 5-day time off. Even for HPF2, 20 days normal, 4.4 days short.

Regarding CEP the normal deadline is already 12 days like all other projects except HPF2 (20 days). But I think it is too short and I would like to see the techs raise it to 20 days as for HPF2.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: What is with the short deadlines?

Hi Jean,

The HPF2 deadlines were what I just found set to 12 days several weeks ago, The copies I just picked up show 12 days too. i.e. after this everything now is 12 days which should help reduce result storage capacity needs.

Just uploaded an updated matrix to the FAQs with all the changes since for science versions, run times, distro, sizes etc.

ciao

Re: What is with the short deadlines?

Hi Sek, and Welcome back!
Thanks for the tip. I run HPF2 only occasionally and I believed that the shorter deadline of the WUs I have run just before the move was due to the move (for the reasons you mention). I did not know that it is still 12 days.

Cheers, and good luck for catching up on the forum if you plan to do so. Jean.

Re: What is with the short deadlines?

Hmmm --

That's interesting. I got one of those "killer" CEP WUs, with a deadline of 3 days. By my calculations, it was not going to finish in time. I looked in Results today, and someone changed the deadline to a later time (should be OK now). (The first time this WU was sent out, both WUs were marked with a 7 day deadline and "no reply". The due date was the 15th, so the no reply might have had to do with WCG migration, or the problems with CEP at the time.)

Re: What is with the short deadlines?

Good of you to check back on the RS page and determining you're fine.

There is no mechanism to update a client side task due date, so let it run when the message log starts flagging.

Make Up/No Reply results by standard rule are send out with a 20% of original deadline return time plus a fudge factor the servers maintain for each client. Probably the average run time of the current returned work also goes into that equation, but not at all sure that is a considered input to that equation.

cheers

Re: What is with the short deadlines?

After reading the last posts I have checked the deadline of two DDDT repair WUs which were being crunched in my quad, and I discovered that it was close to four days.
Maybe the techs have very recently changed the 20 % factor to 33.33 %, but that would deserve a confirmation from their side.
If true I think that most participants will welcome this change.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: What is with the short deadlines?

Sorry I should have confirmed earlier. We have increased the resend percentages to be 33% of the original time.

Hello Kevin,

Because we are now on the new servers (quick DB-access smile ), do you have any plans now for programming that the resends get no earlier deadline than the originals?

Cheers.
