How do I get WCG to use my existing CPID?
If I register, I get a new, but without registering I cannot connect WCG with the the BOINC client. |

The CPID is all automatic. It will adjust on its own, so long as you register using exactly the same email address.
It takes a few days to adjust. |

I registered with another email here.
So if I changed the email in the My Grid settings to the one from BOINC it will reset the CPID after some time? |

first, make sure you using same email and same nickname on all projects
----------------------------------------after that, the fastest way to unite several accounts is to attach all your projects to one machine and connect to the servers. within several mins you will see new Cross-project ID on "My Account" page. if everything will be ok, you will get united stats within a day or so on the sites like boincstats.com It takes a few days to adjust. actually CPID changes within few minutes, but it may take some time depending on the speed of stats update on different projects ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by rilian at Jan 26, 2009 1:46:23 PM] |

Does not exactly work like that rilian. In nutshell, each project generates a new CPID anytime a new registration is made with an email address. Then BOINC looks for the OLDEST CPID generated for that email address and pushes that out to all projects which facilitates the consolidation, provided there are clients on an account that have 2 or more active projects attached.
----------------------------------------If you do not push the cross-project updating it can take days. As for nick, it does not matter. The CPID is the roll up tool. Just look for my registration at BOINCstats to see I have several, but still adding up. cheers edit: correct name

no it does not push oldest, if pushes the last contacted.
----------------------------------------look at my boincstats sig, you see BS-RAC around ~100k. that is because i switched to new CPID few days ago (unintentionally, of course): * i stopped WCG on my laptop * then registered on POEM@home project and got new and shiny CPID for it * crunched a day or two * then activated WCG on that laptop, and it changed my CPID on WCG site to the new one * then, like a wave, it changed CPID to new on the caches of some of my other computers. * i had my old CPID on some other projects i participate, and i almost recovered the old CPID, attaching all of my projects from one separate computer * but then one of computers that is running like 5 hours in a working week, connected to network and changed WCG CPID on the new one * then i gave up and connected to all projects using computer with new CPID * now i have mess in stats sites but new and shiny CPID.... ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by rilian at Jan 26, 2009 7:31:58 PM] |

Let me suggest to read the relevant Wiki:
----------------------------------------http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Cross-Project_Identifier It's the oldest CPID generated for an e-mail address of the project set that is actively contacted by the client(s).

Hi, rilian.
The algorithm is designed to propagate the oldest CPID. There are situations where this can go wrong, not least of which is if you have an old (very old) client using a different CPID algorithm. And if all this isn't complicated enough - BOINC has two completely different identifiers both called CPIDs. LennStar - this is why we prefer to keep our advice simple. When you lift the hood and look underneath, it's like opening Pandora's Box. |

by CPID i mean that which used in stats sites
----------------------------------------When you are using the Cross-Project Identifier for statistic sites you will have to use the second value which you will have to obtain using information such as your name (or alias if you use one). so, this CPID uses nickname ? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by rilian at Jan 26, 2009 9:00:09 PM] |
