The current software has a setting to limit the amount of CPU.
There ought to be 2 settings. One for when I'm working and one when the machine is idle. Now I have 40% set as the limitation, but when I go to lunch you could have 90%. If the screen saver knows when I'm idle, so can you. Please look into this. Also, where do I find how to use CUDA. I now have a board that supports it. Thanks. |

Cathbad, that would not improve performance. Set it to 90% all the time. The CPU limit (throttle) is very crude, and the only reason for it is to avoid overheating issues with laptops.
We don't support CUDA yet. BOINC is still trying to get it right. |

If the screen saver knows when I'm idle, so can you. BOINC does know when your computer cycles are idle. It is set to run at the lowest priority so if you are using any of your processing power at any given moment, BOINC is using whatever is left over. It is not trying to intrude on your tasks. It will simply use what is left over and pick up any idle CPU cycles when the task you are running terminates or at least stops using processor. As soon as your program or any other program needs the processor again, BOINC gives up whatever is needed. You could also uncheck the little box in the Advanced menu that says BOINC can use the processor "While Computer In Use" if you feel that BOINC doesn't play well with your applications. |
