Re: Problem with IE 7

Only one entry on the Quick launch bar and no other entries anywhere.

I keep AVG, Spybot and Adaware up to date and run them daily so I doubt any malware.....

Re: Problem with IE 7

just a quick hint for max crunching with spybot s&d. it seems that the spybot s&d program "teatimer" sometimes uses 100% of one cpu core. it can negatively affect your crunching ability.

Re: Problem with IE 7

Good point, I've disabled that Spybot feature quite some time ago not even remembering why. The aawservice so far has never impaired.

Re: Problem with IE 7

You might try changing your internet security settings to prompt for ActiveX and scripts. You'd be surprised at the programs that use IE or IE services under the covers. After you've had to click o.k. dozens or hundreds of times, you might have an idea of what's going on with your system. You can get some additional insight by having a task manager window open as you're clicking through all the approval. It certainly was an education for me.

Sometimes you get interesting results if you deny a request or two. devilish

Personally, I don't use IE for anything except for the occasional Windows/Office update and whenever I finally move off of Windows entirely, I won't use IE at all (good riddance!). I've always used Netscape / Mozilla / Firefox ever since I had to give up my machine with Mosaic, except for the occasional dabbling with IE.

Re: Problem with IE 7

Well I spoke too soon! It is a problem with all browsers tried - IE8, Chrome, Firefox.

Eventually it stops responding and you find multi-examples of all of them in task manager, which will abort process on them APART from one example of each. They will NOT end process! The only way to clear them is to reboot.

All updates are up to date and AVG, Zone Alarm, Spybot, adaware are running 24/7 without reporting anything. My Lappy, one foot away and connected to the same router does not have a problem.

Any bright ideas?

(as it stands now IE8 will not even start, it just hangs on connecting and eventually reports not responding)

Re: Problem with IE 7

Ideas? From memory, the number of reports you've got down on these forums regarding your system issues leaves but one: The sign IS for you to undertake a full OS reinstall and certainly look at the state of the Java. Version 6, Update 13 is out. Uninstall before upgrading is what Sun (about to become part of IBM) is recommending.
