Work Unit Information

Welcome to a new project. Here are a few notes on some of the first batches of work being sent out.

The first batches have been split up into smaller sizes that normal work units. Members will see batches with HFCC_0000* with an average runtime of about 3 hours. This is meant to help return the first batch back to the researchers quicker. Due to the shorter running work units the deadline will also be shorter on these work units. The shorter deadline for these work units will be 4 days instead of the normal 9 days.

The batches of work after this will be split up into work units about 6 hours of runtime length. These batches will have the normal 9 days deadline as mentioned above. Here are the list of batches with 6 hour average runtime estimates:
HFCC_0001*
HFCC_0002*
HFCC_t1_00*
.....etc.....

Thanks,
-Uplinger

*Needed to correct work unit names that members will see. I had posted about batch names which members do not see.

At 25% / 40 minutes, or 2:40 hours on the quad, same as the Beta, due on 17th.

Re: Work Unit Information

-Uplinger,

I hope the slice and dice program is working, and some slipped through at full length. Now one after 3:14 hours on 48%, when all the previous finished were < 3 hours. Deadline 4 days:

3/13/2009 9:13:57 PM World Community Grid [checkpoint_debug] result HFCC_00000462_TrkB_0000_0 checkpointed

The checkpoint space is similar to the short job, so it's not a crawler.

Re: Work Unit Information

Sek,

Some of the work units may come out to be longer than 3 hours, some less than 3 hours...the average for the work units is around 3 hours estimated. The formula isn't perfect for each work unit to calculate runtime. With new targets for this project we will work on fine tuning it when we get more statistical data in.

Re: Work Unit Information

My four first WU took 2h30 - 2h40 on a Q6600.
On my others computers, it will take longuer for each WU.

Re: Work Unit Information

Hi,

I've been crunching a couple WU's and for the one it's been going for 1 hour and is only 15% done. Seems a bit long based on what people have been saying. The other WU's is 4% done and has taken 25 minutes.

I am running an AMD Athlon X2 2.0 GHz.

Is this odd?

Re: Work Unit Information

Don't know, jamie, but found the jobs quite variable in length running on the same machine. Also found that the time to complete estimates all the way to the end are quite wrong, even after having completed a good dozen... at the end I've seen large % jumps and many minutes to go in seconds.

Re: Work Unit Information

Working on first unit HFCC_00003000_TrkB_00. Four and a half hours spent and only 1/3rd done. At this rate, it should take 13 1/2 hours to finish.
