@Chris Brown: If you are still interested, the test of the 8500GT continues. 31% complete after 27 hours. ![]() ![]() ![]() 09: The Aspens - 14,251 points Did this come out of no where or am I slackin'? ![]() Congrat's to The Aspens!!!! ![]() I upgraded to Bionic 6.6.2, got up this morning and checked my main computer and I have over 100 SETI wu's waiting to run. All of them have an expected completion time of 12 mins. They all want to use CUDA and I can't get them to start. Edit - Okay, I figured out the problem. The "Use GPU While In Use" box wasn't checked. I guess SETI just decided to keep giving me work until one of them went through. It's never going to get through all of these, though! LOL Wow. What is your work buffer set at? I keep mine low @ 0.01 day. It's good to see they started though. If you go to GPUGrid, I would set SETI to no new tasks AND suspend it to prevent a conflict. Are you on 6.6.2 or 6.6.20? 6.6.2 had some problems, 6.6.20 is good. I've never crunched SETI. Let us know what happens. ![]() ![]() |

Not sure what the work buffer is set to. I don't see that option in Bionic anymore. It's burning through these WU's in about 12 mins, so I guess it will probably clear these out today. I connected to GPUGRID with this computer, and it downloaded a wu and started to run it right away. I had to suspend the GPUGRID wu to let all of these seti wu's clear out. This computer has the GTX 260 in it, and not overclocked it's running about 78c. On my other computer, I took the slot cover off and the fan on the card is pulling in cooler air. It's now running at 74c and it's slightly o/c. What does 0.16 CPUs, 1 CUDA mean? I know the CUDA part, but on a quad processor I'm curious about the 0.16 CPU part. On the other computer, it has a core 2 duo and it says 0.22 CPUs.

09: The Aspens - 14,251 points Did this come out of no where or am I slackin'? ![]() Congrat's to The Aspens!!!! ![]() Dataman, The Aspens is the id that I (knreed) crunch under. I rejoined the team today as a tribute to your captain. That bit of cpu power is actually coming from 3 of the old production servers. Just this week we finally got a variety of virtual machines built on them to test various flavors of windows and linux. Since we just pushed the Linux, Windows and Mac into beta we aren't currently running any dev work so they can spend a little time helping out MOT. Kevin ![]() |

On the other computer, it has a core 2 duo and it says 0.22 CPUs. As Blizzie said it is using that percentage of one core. All my quads say 0.14 and my C2D is 0.09 but that is the one running the 8500GT test. BTW: it is 50% complete in 45.33 hours. I got up this morning and noticed this machine's GPU temp was 91C (almost fell out of my chair). It's an 8500GT but does not crunch. Opened the case and sure enough the fan had frozen. Good thing I had a spare. Then the batteries in my keyboard went dead ... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Not sure what the work buffer is set to. I don't see that option in Bionic anymore. Click Advanced>Preferences then click Network Usage Tab and look at Additional Work Buffer. That is specific to just that one machine. That's a setting that you can actually set in any project that has it in the global preferences. In WCG, click on Device Profiles to get to it. |

Yes, that route sets you preferences for all machines that use that profile (the Default one if you don't have more than one). Setting it on a machine thru Boinc Manager overrides the profile settings but only on that machine. |

The 260 is still on hold until all these seti wu's clear out.

Here's some interesting information on how much electricity this takes on just two computers running CPU and GPU crunching.
----------------------------------------I have both computers plugged into the same UPS. My UPS tells me how many watts I'm pulling. With both computers up and crunching, it's pulling about 450 watts. When I shut down the crunching, it drops to around 200 watts. Now if I could just decode my stupid California electric bill, I could figure out how much 250 watts an hour costs, and start deducting that on my taxes. If they decide to audit me, I can show them the computers and say "See", this is what they do all day and all night long. Next thing, I'm going to pause the GPU crunching and see how many watts that is.
