Resolved - Is this normal

Hi I have a CEP work unit going on just over 1 hour CPU time with 0.50% progress is this normal or should I abort this work unit.

At this rate it should take about 8 days to complete the work unit.

Re: Is this normal

Give it at least a day before you start worrying about such things.

Or probably less!
CEP WUs start with a long phase during which the percentage is not moving at all. On a slower machine this initialization phase can last up to one hour or even more for the very long computations that we have seen in the past.

Now that the percentage has started to move you can make a better estimate of the time it will actually take by reading this post http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=22731

This post has been made for type A CEP WUs. Type B WUs are running in a similar way but numbers like the number of times the percentage is increasing are slightly different. If I remember well you have to multiply the time it takes between two consecutive changes of the percentage by 3,500 (instead of 3,200 for type A).

Cheers. Jean.

Edit: Just received 2 type A this evening after a long period without seeing any... and I discover that intervals, numbers and checkpoints have changed. Sorry for having routed you to obsolete information.
Fortunately things have been OK for you though.

Re: Is this normal

Hi it's now morning here and the work units shows 9 hrs 49 mins and 58.86% progress.
Should complete in about another 8-9 hours.

This work unit had the longest start up phase I have seen yet all the other ones I have done were a lot shorter.

Thanks for the comments.
