One of your bots noticed I was not sending results although I had registered 3 weeks ago. It sent me a message asking why.
The reason is simple: I couldn't customize WCG through an account manager. For me this is reason enough to stop collaborating. I did not uninstall BOINC though, I am still collaborating to other BOINC projects. If it ever becomes possible to manage a WCG account through an account manager, I will gladly collaborate again. |

There are several davitof's on BOINCstats. The ones with an exact name match are each attached to 2 projects, different each, with barely any activity to mention. Anyway, except for a few things such as resource share and password changing, most settings go directly between AMS and client. Certainly I've no trouble whatsoever and WCG and AMS well coexist with the 10 other projects attached to my clients... it even manages detach and reattach to WCG.
----------------------------------------When WCG will grant permission. Well to be honest, I don't think the AMSes are secure enough in my view, and that's something WCG is not likely to have compromised as the only BOINC project requiring SSL communication.

Low activity: yes, I know. I have only my small laptop to offer, and being very preoccupied about environment matters, I am not yet convinced that giving 100% of my CPU to such projects makes sense. Anyhow I never suggested that WCG was missing something by losing my collaboration

Security? Well, I may have missed something here. Why do you feel security is important in an open collaborative project? When has security on any project being conducted over the Internet seemed trivial? Never. Actually It is of primary importance. |

If so little contributed and so few accounts to manage, 2 or 3, BAM is complete overkill. Set your device profiles and weights on each of the three websites and crunch on. Spare cycles is exactly what WCG is looking for and why the Power Saving preset profile was created here... so your laptop can contribute while you need it and allows is to go to sleep when not.
----------------------------------------As for security, this is paramount, no base for discussion afaic.

Still curious, and frankly, your answers have not been very enlightening. If I was asking, it meant that the answer was not obvious to me. But I am seeing that may question may be wrong. Or rather not in it's proper place. So first question: whose security are we speaking of?
- WCG (then in how can using an AMS compromise a project's security?) - or our end-users computers (same question of course). |

Security is vital to an effort like this. When security is breached, trust is lost.
Recently, a BOINC project experienced a major security breach. When the vulnerability was brought to their attention, the project failed to act properly on the information. They lost trust, they lost members, and they may never recover. World Community Grid takes security seriously. Have a look at some of the measures considered here: http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Security So far, the AMS has not been security audited. I expect changes to be required before World Community Grid provide full integration. Until then, it is read-only. |

Security? Well, I may have missed something here. Why do you feel security is important in an open collaborative project? Are you aware of the times people on these open collaberative projects have found and used ways to increase their scores by either stealing other people's credits, or getting the source code for the application programs and rewriting them to report spending more CPU time than actually required? Some have even rewritten the code to return worthless results quickly, but report taking plenty of CPU time to do it. |

I was aware of this, although not in all these details, but I keep forgetting about it. The attitude of those cheaters seems so pointless, so silly. If users earned money by crunching, I'd understand. Personally, if others steal my credits, I don't care. I am not even doing it for the glory, only to get the results achieved, if they can be achieved. Now if some have found ways to return invalid results, thus pushing the goal away instead of bringing it closer, I agree this is something which needs to be prevented.

I am not even doing it for the glory, Glory? Lol, there's no glory just because you did something right. It doesn't matter if you contribute the most, you don't get glory, you just know you did something right and tried to change something or make your life mean something. When you're working for the bigger picture, glory doesn't exist. It doesn't even matter if you do something like win the prize on distributed.net, you don't get glory, you get hated by everyone else.
