I have been running WCG for three or four days and have experienced a system shut-down at least once a day.
Has anyone seen this happening? If I can't stop it I will have to uninstall WCG. |

It would be helpful if you could provide more information. It will give the techs more to work with. When you say your system crashes, what exactly happens? Do you run Rosetta 24/7? Etc.
I'm sure the techs can help you resolve it. Good luck and hang in there. It is worth it. ![]() |

Hi mate,
I had a look through the Forums but couldn't find anything on this for you. As my team mate 'julied' mentioned, rest assured one of the Admins or Techs will be back with answers / solution asap. In the meantime, it may be worth while elaborating a bit more on what you mean by a system shut-down & when / how often this is happening .. just to help them pin point the problem. Is it just your WCG agent or is it your whole machine; Have you got any other grid project running; Are your other applications running without a problem; What Anti-virus are you running etc etc. Hope you are up & running soon .. |

Hello, again.
The more I think about it the more confused I am as to what "the trigger is." One possibility that comes to mind (and this is only logical deduction) is that the shutdown itself is the trigger. Let me explain. Let us suppose that your system has never been put under this kind of load before installing Rosetta. If you have a hardware issue, it is POSSIBLE that you may be generating extra heat or that your system is reacting AS IF you are. In such an event, the system could shut itself down. This would temporarily stop the generation of heat OR the feedback mechanism in your software that is generating the command. Remember, this is only speculative. But it is something you could look into if you have a built-in temp monitor. ![]() Either way, we will get you up and running before long. ![]() |

1. Have you checked your CPU tempereture? It is possible that CPU is just shutting down to prevent damage from overheating. You can use SpeedFan to measure the temp...

We're still with you, partner. In the meantime some useful info for you.
I did a search on the forums and found out that there may indeed be several issues (all easy enough to fix) with your set-up. They have to do with things like sys config, etc. It might be helpful if you listed any anti-virus and/or spyware software that you might have installed. Also, you may be aware that WCG is preparing to update the software to a new version. There have been a few glitches recently. The WCG techs may not be able to "see you" right now. When I tried to get a message to them I received an error message saying that "the application is temporarily down." To contact them directly the URL is: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewContactUs.do There are a lot of advanced members who can help though. Unfortunately one is at a trade show, another at the VA hospital ... Usually no one ever has to sit around waiting for a response for very long. (I emailed several members and told them about your situation.) If you would like to, you can do a forum search using "SP2 XP" or add 2.8Ghz to see some of the buzz. If you'd like, you're welcome to join me for some spring freshenin' up out in my yard. I have a couple of very friendly labs who would love to jump all over and lick your face. ![]() |

I had a similiar problem with the first puter I put on the grid back in november. I had both the rosetta app reseting itself and the whole computer doing random warm restarts.
This would only occur whn I was running rosetta. In desperation I removed the ram and swapped it with another computers ram and never had another problem This computer was an amd2500+ and only had the one stick of 512 meg ram. In your case with a pentium you should have two sticks of matched 256 meg of ram bcause of the dual channel memory setup. So it may be more difficult for you to swap ram because of two sticks. Unfortunately any minor glitch a puter has while not noticeable during normal conditions. Under rosetta it will be found. This app pushes hardware real good. |

Thanks, everyone, for the support.... both tech and moral.
My problem is a complete system power off shutdown with no "restart". It happened again this AM while I was working on-line. I didn't mention that my system is a Dell Inspiron laptop. It might be a little difficult to look at the power supply. There is a cooling fan that fires up when things get hot and I haven't noticed the fan running any more often than usual.... but I guess it is a possibility. I'll keep my fingers crossed for some insight into my headache. Thanks again. |

Richard,
try to elevate the laptop from the surface it's resting on (a couple of inches will do) .. just to help airflow around it ![]() |
