It will be very tough to do better. There is a 5-7 million point per day gap (can vary mostly up) with the 4th position. Not impossible but very hard to bridge. External temps should be -20 to allow for the cooling in that case, and I would need some additional investments.

It is now 4 full years that I joined WCG for crunching. I started the 17 December 2008. In fact my grid crunching started earlier with Seti@home which was at the time the first grid application (at least that I know of), and I remember that it took me days of painful crunching to just send one WU.

When I started with 1 WU returned per day and 856 points per day, looking at the WCG daily rankings the top cruncher was marist_college (today IBM). I was ten thousands and thousands ranks away. When I looked at the gap between marist_college with thousands registered machines and my first little cruncher it was like two different universes. Slowly over the time the virus took up and it becaome a kind of race, for once not for money but for helping make this world a better place.

So now after four years and thanks to GPU crunching (you have to give caesar what belongs to caesar) here I am am right behind. Never would I have imagined that. It has been a wild ride up to now, with ups and downs, some tense family moments (home invasion of the crunchers, heat and noise) you can imagine.

The real winners are the scientists and their projects, and so it should be, and I am very happy to have contributed a little.

This is the answer. For example, my RAC increased from app. 3 400 credits (4 CPU cores) to > 32 K credits since end of October when I added new rig of 8 CPU "cores" + 1 GPU.

Points for GPU or CPU have no difference. All adds up. By using GPU you can increase your production, depending on the CPU and GPU you are using, by a factor of 18 at least.

The best GPU today for WCG is the ATI HD 7970.

To give you a rough idea, a top rig (Intel fast hexa-core CPU) with this board can generate up to 1 Million points per day, or 143'000 boinc credits per day.
