Lost connection

Recently I got email to the effect that the WCG had lost contact with my system. I have no clue as to why this might have happened. I have
changed nothing on my end. I do notice that the WCG icon has vanished from my system tray, if that matters. I downloaded and installed another copy of the software and was told that the installation was successful, but I cannot find any evidence of that. I can't find an icon in my system tray
or a shortcut icon. What is the name of the application file I click on to boot it up manually and what folder is it in??

Re: Lost connection

Assuming you run a Windows system you should find BoincMgr in your Start Menu in a folder named BOINC or WorldCommunityGrid.
Start it and copy the messages logged during startup in your next post. That should provide us with the information that you forgot to include in your previous post.

According to WCG Stats something happened in your machine around July 26, if that can help you to remember some particular event or action.

Read you later. Jean.

PS: And you should remove your email info from your opening post if you don't want to see this mailbox flooded with all sorts of mail. If you want to be informed by mail of new posts in this thread (once a day) simply use the Watch function offered at the right top of the thread.

Re: Lost connection

It is possible that Windows Defender or some other security software that you use is blocking World Community Grid.

Some more information about your system may allow us to give more specific advice.

On my Windows Vista PC, I can run BOINC manually by:

Click Start button -> Run -> Browse -> go to your main hard drive (the drive that Windows is sitting on) -> Program Files -> BOINC folder. Double click on "boincmgr" to run the BOINC Manager application.

Hope that helps.
