Re: Facebook application

From knreed
We have been in the process of redesigning and reworking our Facebook application for the past month to make it more dynamic, engaging and integrated into the World Community Grid website. We plan to release the updated application in early November. We will submit the World Community Grid Facebook application to Facebook's official application verification program. This process will provide our members with the certainty that they are dealing with an application that is the official World Community Grid application.

I have used both the discussed facebook applications recently, and it is rather large differences between them.
So my question is: Are WCG open for suggestions from members for the new applications functionality?

I think facebook is an powerful medium that has a really PR possibility if it's used right.

Re: Facebook application

Yes we are. We have a certain number of features that we have planned at launch and some that we will be adding over the next 4-5 months. We are definitely open to ideas and suggestions.

Re: Facebook application

Are you in need of any help in the facebook work ?

I've recently created my own facebook application BOINC milestones which is mainly a server side only application. Once signed up, a users provides their BOINC Cross Project ID and gives permission for the app to post to the wall. When my database registers that they hit a milestone in any BOINC project, it will post the fact to their facebook wall with links to their details in my stats site, the project itself and their team (if applicable).

It also posts when they hit a new 'badge' in primegrid and yoyo@home which will be extended to WCG also once the subproject data is available.

Was kind of interesting learning the Facebook API and I agree it can be a powerful medium for getting the word out there. I have 1300 users of the app in the first month or so.

Re: Facebook application

Bok - I saw your app announced over at BOINC and it looks nice.

At this time we are adding some capabilities to the website that we will take advantage of with our Facebook application. We have to do that work first. In particular, we are starting of set of changes that will be put into place over the next 6 months that will significantly improve the ability of our members to be aware of what is going on here. We are doing those that will be used by our Facebook application first.

We cannot open up our development to outside help, but we would appreciate beta testing when we get closer to going live. I would also be interested in hearing what users of your application have liked the best.

Disclaimer: Bok's facebook application was not developed nor reviewed by World Community Grid. Thus you should not interpret our comments here as an endorsement or a rejection of the application.

Here's a filter of all posts on facebook in Member news:

I actually see on some WCG pages both the F & T symbols and yes it's an ongoing project with "something wonderful is happening, kskjold" in the pipeline ;>)

Re: Facebook application

I have noticed the F & T symbol, but you have to accept the app before you are able to watch how its working. And the old F app was not that good. I'm using an unofficial app at the moment and will not change until the new app is as good or better then the app I'm currently are using. Is it possible to publish some screenshots of the facebook app?

Same here.
I am looking forward to the new official app, hoping that really "something wonderful is happening", as Sekerob expressed it smile
