I recently returned to WCG after a long hiatus, and noticed something; my computer is getting one project done every 11-12 hours. Is this normal? If not, how can I improve the worktime and efficiency? (The computer is a Sony VAIO [vgn-s380b is the model])
Also, confused about something; can one run multiple projects per agent? (ie a muscular dystrophy p2 project and two help conquer cancer projects at once?) How does this affect performance? Thanks! |

Seems like your computer has a pentium mobile processor, which means you can crunch one work unit at a time. Only way to increase the performance is to set your BOINC client to use more CPU time. (BOINC is set by default at 60 % I guess)

hne12359,
----------------------------------------For projects like FAAH, HFCC, HPF2 11-12 hours on your machine seems OK, particularly if it is set for using 60 % max of the CPU time. Be careful if you want to try using 100 % of CPU time: laptops are usually more difficult to keep at a reasonable temperature when running full speed continuously. Regarding your choice of projects you can select any projects as you like in your device profile but, as mikaok said, your laptop will process only one at a time. If you would prefer shorter durations for your work units you might choose the Rice project which stops after 7 hours whatever the speed of the machine which computes it, or/and HCMD2 which stops after 6 hours if less than 60 % of the work has been done after that time, and never exceeds 12 hours when allowed to complete the task. Cheers. Jean. |
