confused Best BOINC Version Win7 64bit Intel I7

All my devices which run WCG and only WCG are in Win7 64bit Intel i7 CPU.
I run on all of them the standard vesrion of BOINC that is downloadable from WCG website.

I understand that there are more recent versions of BOINC.

Is there a more recent version better for my OS CPU configuration ?

smile Re: Best BOINC Version Win7 64bit Intel I7

I have switched today all my devices to the BOINC version 6.10.18 for 64 bit Windows. Let's see if this improves the number of results per day.

Hate to disappoint you, but BOINC does not do any science processing. The research applications to that, the agent acting as a traffic warden.

Hate to be disappointed too. But it happens. That's life. biggrin
I should have thought of that. d oh

I will still see if there is some difference. A more effective traffic warden may in the end have better results as a whole. wink

Re: Best BOINC Version Win7 64bit Intel I7

You had already got the 64-bit benefit, simply by choosing to install 64-bit operating systems.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: Best BOINC Version Win7 64bit Intel I7

To simplify,
Consider Boinc as a tool for downloading and uploading tasks and managing when tasks run - a sort of task manager.
When you sign up to WCG you download a WCG Master file.
This is the actual program that runs the tasks, not Boinc.
The tasks are the same no matter whether you have a 32bit or a 64bit operating system - they are all x86.

So you were already running the tasks on a 64bit operating system, and the tasks would therefore already have been benefiting from the 64bit operating systems ability to handle itself and x86 tasks to some degree.

Perhaps the 64bit Boinc system is slightly better at handling tasks on a 64bit operating system, or more stable. I expect there is some small difference; otherwise the authors would not have bothered to write it!

It would benefit those of us that have 64bit Operating Systems if tasks were written specifically for our benefit as well as seperate x86 systems. Another 10% or 20% boost is something I am sure the scientists would like to see as much as us. Perhaps some tasks will eventually be written specifically for 64bit systems?

sad Re: Best BOINC Version Win7 64bit Intel I7

I was disappointed finally. As I changed all the devices I could compare.
There is no gain at all, even a little loss in terms of WU's per day.
