Based on current plans, the December challenges are the last set that I plan to create. I do plan to report the results of the November and December challenges to wrap things up.

The intent in creating these challenges each month was not just to encourage folks to crunch more but also to provide a means for the team captains to have something of a feel for what their team is crunching month to month. By joining the full set of challenges, a captain can see both the monthly total points, run time and results for their team and how that is broken down across the active projects. They can also compare that to other teams in the challenges as well. To ensure that such comparisons were accurate, joining a challenge after it started was not allowed. I would create each month's challenges well in advance, usually almost a month before, in order to provide plenty of time for captains to join each month's challenges. The way team challenges are designed to work, you can specifically invite teams, even to open challenges, and the team captain is sent an invitation email. However, you have to enter each team one by one prior to submitting the challenge. There is no way to invite additional teams once the challenge is submitted nor is there a way to submit a list of teams at one time. Entering invitations for 40-50 teams in 18-24 challenges would require as many as 1200 separate entries one by one over the course of submitting these challenges each month. Quite simply, that is not practical. I've considered alternatives and none are any better. IBM has never considered usability, more specifically, the lack of any, to be a defect. Thus, it considers any effort to address this lack of usability to be a design change which puts such an effort at the bottom of the priority list of requests from WCG's volunteers where that list is already at the bottom of the overall priority list for WCG. Since WCG has no revenue stream, IBM understandably minimizes any resources expended by WCG. After all, it's all about the bottom line in any company like IBM. They exist to make a profit. This is nothing unique. Since I can't really accomplish what I really wanted to do by creating these challenges each month and I agree that it clearly much more important for the few but highly committed folks in IBM that work on WCG to keep the servers going, the website up, the projects running and boarding new ones, I have decided to discontinue these challenges. As much as the admins may want to address this or any other request from the volunteer community, any such effort would be beyond the absolute minimum that IBM wants expended on WCG.
