Hi all,
----------------------------------------What are the filesizes of BOINC work units (I participate in Help Fight Childhood Cancer and Help Conquer Cancer projects here)?...and what is the size of response that BOINC sends back when it completes the work unit? On Windows XP, in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org the entire directory is only 8.9MB...lots of .GZB files that are either 69k or 158k. I thought the Work Unit size were larger...like 1MB to 5MB...and the response back is under 500K. But maybe I am wrong. I would be very happy if the downloads truly are 69k or 158k. :) But would still like to know what the upload size is. Thanks so much in advance! -Eric ![]() |

Hi,
----------------------------------------here's and FAQ with a link to the official table and a matrix which packs more information such as the number of checkpoints, estimated run times and more. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17855 Let us know if there's something that could be added.

Thanks for the fast reply...so if I am reading that chart correctly, it seems the download and upload file sizes are 0.1MB = 100KB.
----------------------------------------Right? I will also add this to the other thread: The picture should be larger...1024x768 or higher so the columns are not squished so much. My eyes practically bleed trying to read that. :) It's 2010...people run their 19"+ monitors a lot higher than 800x600. :) I feel like a time machine took me back to 1993 with WFWG 3.11 and my 40 pound CRT. Thanks again. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ericinboston at Feb 26, 2010 7:05:08 PM] |

Think in the header is says Mb. Not looked for a while, just update the data as and when needed.
----------------------------------------There's a large size image link below the thumbnail. It's wide, high res and re-sizable since it's in PNG format. Bet, you either your browser has not got the feature or your screendrivers are needing an update. When hovering over the initial full size image, the mouse pointer should change to a magnifier with a + in it. Bleeding eyes I've only seen in X-files, the movie.

That's what I mean...the LARGE picture is: 812px × 917px. My eyes go nuts trying to read a yellow chart with black text with squished columns. :) Go nuts and put it into a true "large" dimensional pic. :)
----------------------------------------The header says MegaBytes. MB=Megabyte, Mb=Megabit. :) Just saying in case you thought there was a typo. So 0.1 MB should equal about 100KB. Hence my work unit downloads and uploads are quite small in comparison to the billion other things that get downloaded every day via web browsers and email. :) -Eric ![]() |

See my post above for added text on the size. Your browser has no hold pointer-scroll wheel to increase the viewing size further?
----------------------------------------Kb or KB, it's Mega-

No problem with Image size. Very readable.
----------------------------------------![]() Sek the Megabits Megabytes thing is very confusing. By looking at the numbers in the columns can't understand. You have Megabytes (MB) = 10xMegabits (Mb). So you should have numbers like 34/340 or things like that. But it is not the case. There is not a factor of 10 between the numbers on each side of the slash sign. And when there is no slash just one number then is it Mb or MB. ![]() ![]() |

Always thought 8 bits is 1 byte... let me dig out my 8088 with 8086 co processor
----------------------------------------Everything in millions (Mega) and whatever the ISP considers intertube wide, byte or bit. The 20 / 10 means DL 20 , UL 10. Because of the cosmetics, could not get the group header over the column header, presuming (a sin) there's an amount of duh in everyone and the (10) meaning footnote 10 **, but maybe I completely misunderstand where the multiplier is coming from, for which my up front apologies. ** Wonder how it would have been interpreted if it was marked as footnote (8) ;>) At any rate, my screen is of the all type, so I'm leaving the width as-is, but have done some little dotted lines that hopefully makes it clearer, just a little.
