Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 42 smilesmile

how did you snag them Keith? I have yet to receive one.. :(

Dr. Mike..

Well, the "secret" is to ask for them when they have some. biggrin You could try this approach. If you're not using more than one profile (ie, just a default profile), set the projects in your default profile to whatever you have normally possibly excluding DDDT2. Create a second profile (home, work or school) that has only DDDT2 selected and set to not send work from other project when DDDT2 WUs are not available. On the machines you want to run DDDT2 on, you may want to lower your queue size a bit. On my 2.5 GHz quad, the Type A's take 36-42 hours each. Use the update button to make sure your work queue is full. Now switch your machine to the new DDDT2 profile you created and then increase your work queue by at least two days. Once the machine starts asking for more work, you'll probably see the messages that there is no DDDT2 work available. Leave things that way and hope you get some. Keep an eye on the machine from time to time as if your work queue starts to run low, you'll need to reverse this so you can refill your normal work queue back with regular work and then repeat the above to have it try for DDDT2 some more. Repeat until you get some or get tired of trying.

Note that if you look at this from the flip side, you could argue that you'll be needlessly hitting the WCG servers repeatedly asking for DDDT2 work that's not there. That is viewed by some as a bad thing. A counter arguement to that is that there should be sufficient capacity on the servers to handle that, especially since the "typical" load and forget user probably has all projects selected anyway and is doing the same thing to a lesser degree (they're getting work from the other projects but could get DDDT2 if their machine just happens to request work at just the right time), that projects should normally be able to provide enough work to meet reasonable demand (and if not, the admins should have to deal with the consequences).

You just have to go with what you feel is right. The approach above will eventually work but is not for everyone and does require more involvement on your part. Guess it depends just how much someone wants to get DDDT2 WUs. Hopefully, they'll have the supply cranked up soon enough that this is all moot.

An interesting change I noticed today - DDDT2 is still a quorum of two project but they are now sending WUs (the type A WUs at least) to four crunchers. Once they have a quorum, it looks like they abort the WU for the remaining two crunchers unless they are already crunching it (in which case you still get points). That should actually improve a bit how soon the type As get returned and validated I think. Something else to factor in.

We'll pass the thirty million point mark for the year on Saturday (unless we have a blowout day on Friday). We are also steadily closing in on a pace for 155 million.

It looks like DDDT2 has sent out some more B's and some C's. I got two that both ran in under an hour. One valid, the other is still PV. I didn't go through any special effort to get these two, so hopefully they are becoming more plentiful.

7.5 more crunching days for DDDT2 bronze.....

Just a guess --- would that be 500,000,000 points?

That's good to hear. It's been a pain getting the type A's. Since they have to run first to generate the B's and then the C's, maybe it IS starting to get better!
