The last new work was about last Thursday/Friday last week and yes with about 20 CPU years accumulated in the first month i.e. an average of 0.67 CPU years worth daily since project start on Feb.17... now we're again in a beta cycle to resolve some stability bugs, so do not anticipate much until tonight and if not, early next week.

Then explain the all the bronze and silver badges I see around the forums? Doesn't sound intermittent to me? Someone is getting the work. Some of us have a small army of processors and don't need much time to get a badge. For example I have 20 computers (34 cores) currently. If the project was in full swing I could get a bronze in a day, silver the day after that etc. Note I don't have Gold yet which means I have not had 90/34=2.67 Days on the project.

Then explain the all the bronze and silver badges I see around the forums? Doesn't sound intermittent to me? Someone is getting the work. Also you must not forget that the first WUs (about 2,000 if I remember correctly) were type A WUs at an average 2-day runtime each. At this rate one needed only 7 or 8 to get a Bronze badge. ![]() If you missed it please review this post Discovering Dengue Drugs - Together Phase 2 Work Unit Types for details of the distribution for this project. |

Don't feel bad. I have several PC's at my disposal and I have received a total of 2 WU's. Only one went to what I consider a reliable PC. The other is capable, but puts units out slow. I really doubt it finishes. There is definitely an unfair bias on who gets them. But, this issue has been discussed in several forums and doesn't really seem to matter to those who can control such things.

There is definitely an unfair bias on who gets them. Please don't start such rumors. The servers don't know anybody and they have no bias at all.Regarding A-type WUs they will be distributed to "reliable" devices only because they take long to complete and they condition the creation of all other WUs. A device is considered "reliable" by the servers if it does not return errors and if its average return time is below two days, and it is true that there are probably many slow devices running with a small additional work buffer which are able to return "normal" WUs in less than 2 days but might not be able to return a type A DDDT2 WU in less than 8 days. However slow devices are also fetching new work much less frequently than fast multicores and the probability that they get one of the 72,000 A-type jobs over the duration of the project is probably very low. If you are certain that your slow machine will not return an A-type WU in time and if you are not chasing the DDDT2 badge you may probably abort it as soon as you see one. Maybe knreed would be able to filter slow machines out of A-type distribution (e.g. based on their benchmark) but I don't think that such a feature has been implemented currently. |
