AMD launched its Opteron 6000 line, available with eight or 12 processors on a single chip, along with Direct Connect Architecture 2.0, which allows a microprocessor to communicate with four other microprocessors simultaneously, instead of the previous three.....

I am completely disappointed at the speeds.
----------------------------------------The fastest 8 core is at 2.26 Ghz. If we leave the HT feature you have 8x2.26 = 18 GHz with a cost of nearly 4'000 US$ retail price per chip. I do not think you can overclock those chips or surely not in an easy way. ![]() The 980X 6 core running smoothly at 4.00 Ghz (could do 4.2) has a power of 24 Ghz for the cost of 1'100 US$. ![]() Movieman if you have the opportunity to make a comparative test on those dirty cheap chips you are welcome ![]() I suppose that none of us has the financial means to play with those chips. ![]() |

but if your running wcg on all 6 cores then you will max out at 3.2 per core. Interesting in that review though, it outperformed even a I7 980x playing call of Duty Modern warfare 2. Seems AMD wants to hold/retake gaming enthusiasts love, which would give more cores up for gamers who do WCG. (I recruited a gamer yesterday, one more quad core for the cause!)

The turbo feature won't help with dc computing, because more than three cores are in use. Seems though that you can manually OC it run permanently at about 4GHz. Then you must turn the turbo off anyway
