Re: [Help needed] Can't receive CEP Phase 2 tasks due to network bandwidth issue

That worked. Thanks. ;)

ETA: modified the config file, that is. :)

Can you say what edits you made? I'd like to try also.

The file to edit is client_state.xml and the value to change is bwdown in net_stats.

Don't forget to shut down BOINC and make a backup of the file before you start.

Re: [Help needed] Can't receive CEP Phase 2 tasks due to network bandwidth issue

First fetch a few HPF2 and HCC jobs. That will pump up your download rate to above 128kBps aka 1Mbps, if you have the real bandwidth all across those hops to the WCG server.

Now had to resort twice to this trick, so forward on I'm running a 3 way mix. There's so much work, CEP2 is not going to run away anytime soon.

For this trick, will jobs from any project (other than CEP2 obviously) work, or are HPF2 and HCC especially quick to download?

It doesn't really matter which one you choose, as long as it's not CEP2. I used HCC when I initially set up a new machine and it only took 2 WUs to reset.

Re: [Help needed] Can't receive CEP Phase 2 tasks due to network bandwidth issue

For those with more than one computer sharing the same Internet connection, watch they dont try to download or upload heavy volumes at the same time. Boinc does not manage your network bandwidth usage across several systems. If you are having trouble you might want to manually do some updates, and limit update periods using Boinc (Advanced Preferences, network usage, hours of the day) so they are different for different systems.

Re: [Help needed] Can't receive CEP Phase 2 tasks due to network bandwidth issue

There has to be a better solution than all this.

Agreed.

How about reducing the requirement to, say, 64k?

Surely, any form of broadband should be adequate. So, given that the boinc software often measures well below theoretical levels and presumably the main objective is to rule out modem connections, why not just set the requirement a little above modem speed. (i.e. anything above 56k.)

As with the original poster here, I've had various machines report around 90k. Reducing the threshold to slightly above maximum modem speed would probably remove all of these hassles of having to edit the config file.

Agreed +1

Atleast when you say that you have 24h coverage on net and fixed price for that :-)

Hmm, maybe a rethink of the limit is needed :)

04-Jul-2010 15:55:53 [World Community Grid] Message from server: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 requires 128.00 kbps download bandwidth. Your computer has been measured at 127.97 kbps.
