BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client.

I had to reinstall BOINC. Now I get the message: "BOING Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client." As instructed I went to Advanced/Select Computer and used 'localhost' as the host name. I still receive the message.
I am using 6.2.28 on a Windows Vista machine.
How can I get past this error?

Hi,

Plz Uninstall (rerun the installer) and Reinstall again, making sure you choose "All Users" in the installer screen: See item 3 of FAQ http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971 for screenshots.

Re: BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client.

I did as instructed. The All Users check box was checked by default. When I ran the BOINC Manager I received the save error message.

I have used this application for three years without difficulty. Strange that this is happening now.

Re: BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client.

Try an up to date version of BOINC; 6.10.58 (Win) or 6.10.56 (Linux)

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

Make sure to choose 64-bit if you have a 64-bit operating system.

Re: BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client.

After uninstalling World Community Grid - BOINC for Windows from my machine I downloaded and installed version 6.10.58 on my 32-bit operating system. This time BOINC Manager gave me the error: Unable to connect to the core client.

I found an old e-mail that gave the "Date Installed & Registered" of "Thu Jun 01 11:32:44 GMT 2006". I had enough points accumulated to buy a Pint of Guiness, oh well.

Re: BOINC Manager is not currently connected to a BOINC client.

Probably something is now blocking port 31416 over localhost (ip 127.0.0.1). Check your securities again (AV, Firewall, Windows Defender etc)... oh and check if boinc.exe is really running or gets killed quick, by the security software.

Sorry for your plight, but sometimes it requires more digging to be a valued grid crunching volunteer :-)
