In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

On the bright side, those of us with 22 badges only have to wait till it hits 30 projects to get guru. By my rough calculations that should be about the time the sun envelopes Mercury. I thought I was being "logical" ![]() Snurk's website defines guru as "[senior & 90+% science badges & beta]". With 22 badges (including beta), + you have reached "senior" status, doesn't that put you at "guru" already? The WCG website says there are 24 Projects across time (5 Active and 19 Completed). So as I'm reading things, 90% of the science badges (24 * .9 = 21.6). What have I missed... |

There are 24 science projects. Plus Beta is 25 total, not 24. Ok, thanks for that clarification. So, if we use the average of 2 WCG Projects added per year, then ole KWSN would make guru in about 3yrs. For myself (at 14 Science and 1 Beta), that accomplishment takes 38 years. I'll definitely be well into my "dirt-nap" by then. ![]() ![]() Using all accumulated Projects count from inception really makes attaining "guru" more of a "Founders in WCG" achievment vs a "guru" in Crunching level. If I look at it from that perspective, then it seems "logical". ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 15, 2015 4:39:56 PM] |

This the teh interwebz...logic and reason have no place here. Good one... ![]() BTW, two of the three with 25 badges joined WCG at least a year after it was started. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by BladeD at Jan 15, 2015 6:34:58 PM] |

Well I did learn one thing...don't raise any questions or thought about those little icons (it apparently is taboo).

...more of a "Founders in WCG" achievment
----------------------------------------WCG started Nov.'04. There is a Guru that joined WCG in April'07 and another that started Jan.'07. |

...more of a "Founders in WCG" achievment WCG started Nov.'04. There is a Guru that joined WCG in April'07 and another that started Jan.'07. Yes, I got your point the first time you made it. I feel that you may have missed my overall point and instead we are talking about things like "why I should ask about guru when I still have 3 yrs to reach senior" and what is a "founder". I don't want Snurk or anyone else to think that any of those little icons should go away. If that happened, it would be a wrong result of my raising these thoughts. So, I'll try again to clarify. If this seems too "left field" for people, I can stop talking about it all together and will still be a "happy Cruncher" all the way. ![]() ![]() If you came along (as I did) well after that time (2011), the time-frame to reach "guru" actually becomes a very long term moving target (38 years) that I think most people could agree is too long. I can't go back to 2004-2006 and participate because I didn't even know that WCG was there in those days (I was Folding full time for Stanford). All I've tried to do was to raise thought with Snurk about the calculation for "guru". It was never my intent to debate who started when, badge counts, whether my question was logical, rational, or any other label that might be placed. There are times when sharing open thought just doesn't resonate and becomes counterproductive. Some might even want to say "who cares" and that too is an appropriate feeling. I'm not going to say more about this because it doesn't seem to be anything that other people are interested in discussing and I do know when to drop something. Back to basics and good Crunching to you all! ![]() |

Let me add an example to support the analysis by texinga.
The lowest ranking Guru has completed nearly 31 thousand WU and is nearing 10 years as a member. The highest ranking non-Guru has completed over 3.25 million WU and is coming up on 8.5 years as a member. If we are talking about long-term service, the answer is obvious. If we are talking about experience with WCG and investment of time, a different answer is also obvious. and thanks to both for their investment in WCG. |
